When life deals you a **** hand what do you do? Let me tell you about a young man I have called Pooh Bear since he was born. Now 22 and enrolled in the Harris County Sheriff's Academy while being a jailer, my 1st born grandson. When he came to us in life I changed into that next stage of life as a proud Pepaw unless you have been there no explaining the feeling. He spent his first BBQ cook with me at less than a month old. (see the baby with the #6 hat). I remember when Grammy and I took him to James Coney Island for dinner, he let out a crying scene while getting back in the truck. People were looking at us like we were whipping his butt. Then as he grew to 5, he thought he could outthink Pepaw at Kroger's and hung on to the cart thinking he could get what he wanted and mopped the floor. Moving on he has been motivated to push the envelope for life by his parents. He did and had a major dirt bike accident that tore his butt up. Imagine being on a motorcycle riding it into the air about 10 ' in the air and then on the way down you are walking in the air , watching where you are coming down and no motorcycle only to see how it is going to hurt when landing. Well both feet and knees went the other way landed, many operations. He has beaten all the odds that he has been dealt so far in life by the motivation of the best parents he could ever dream for. They lead by example and both push the envelope of life and enjoy.
While we just were informed that he has lymphoma that has spread quite a bit, putting him in stage 3. Bone marrow test next week. If it is not in the bone marrow, he will remain stage 3.
The classification also changed after further pathology review to a rare form called nodular lymphocyte predominant Hodgkin's lymphoma. While rare, it is still highly curable.
He has one more test and an operation to install a catheter/port in his chest for treatment. Treatment will be 2 days a week, every three weeks of chemo and immunotherapy. He will start with 4 rounds. Hoping for first treatment by July 20. Please send you prayers to this brave young man that is very special to me.He WILL beat this!!! The most important thing he needs to understand, it ALL starts with his mental fortitude and pure focus on what it is going to take to whoop this.... that is the start.

I am so sorry. I know how helpless it feels when someone you love has cancer. Praying for the best medical care for a full remission.

@Astrokatz :

He has been thru a lot for someone that young. He has his youth, strength and the experience with medical treatments/surgeries to go thru this. I will keep him in my thoughts, as well as you and your family. Things will get better.

@Astrokatz : I'm so sorry to hear that your grandson has to go through this. My mom was Stage 3 when she was diagnosed with lymphoma and she did have it in her bone marrow (however a different type than what you mention but hers was also highly curable as well). She did the R-CHOP therapy. She is 4 yrs into remission and feels great. We were so overwhelmed and scared when it all began. They've gotten really good with the drugs that counter the side effects of the chemo. Tiredness a few days after her treatments was probably the most notable side effect. She had little to no nausea. Your grandson and your entire family will be in my thoughts and prayers throughout his journey to remission.
