See all these women he's got drooling over his pup.. no shame in his puppy game!

@DaycareMom : Works every time, one of the oldest tricks in the book. Kittens work too, but not as good as puppies.

@ladybeachbum : Hey! We had a pit mix who was the sweetest dog ever. (I am so tired of the reputation that seems to follow them. It is the bad owner/abuser who deserves the rep … not the breed). Somebody dumped the little guy (not over 8 weeks old) we ended up with. He climbed under our wooden fence & we kept him.. Our dog at the time (a Great Dane/German Shepherd/Black Lab mix named Jodi) allowed him to stay so we named him Lucky. He lived for 15 wonderful years. My mother-in-law, who was never really crazy about dogs, adored him. She said that he was the most polite dog that she had ever had the experience of meeting. He was friendly as long as people weren't up to no good. Lucky read people like a book. We have had a lot of very wonderful dogs, but I think Lucky and Jodi were two of the very best!

@LeverageShowFan : For sure all dogs of any breed are not the same, however, my niece had a pit that she came home and the pit had devoured her other dog and there was blood all over her home. They were big pit lovers and her daughter had one and swore by them until the pit came after her in her back yard and wouldn't let her move. She fell and he had her down and biting. Her eight year old daughter had the good sense to get a broom and fight it off. The authorities took it away and it was put down. I don't think they will ever own another one.
But my best dog ever, A golden, was super good at biting and bit everyone in the family but me. We all still loved him but didn't let him around anyone not in the family.
I'm pretty sure Pits are at the top of the danger list. I'm glad you have a good one but my nieces thought they did, too. Maybe not being full blood helps.

@ladybeachbum : OMG! That's awful!!! I am so sorry to hear about this. I can certainly understand feeling the way you do. What a terrible ordeal! Sounds like your niece and her daughter lived to tell the tale …. THANK GOODNESS! But I am terribly sorry about their other dog …. that's terrible! *** Your Golden sounds like he was jealous and extremely protective. My pit mix, Lucky, was part Black Lab. He had the typical lab "webbed" feet and he loved the water. He was protective when there were strangers, but we never had any behavior problems out of him. I cried for a week when Lucky passed away. About a couple of weeks later, we headed to BARC to give another rescue dog a home. Currently we have a mix that has smooth-haired chow in him … found him at BARC. We have had to do some behavior modification and socialization with him. He is extremely protective of me and my husband (but especially of me). He is not a children's dog. We would not have gotten him if we had small children. When the people brought him out for us to see, a man who was a part of a young couple, expressed his interest in the puppy. (He was the only smooth hair chow mix that we noticed at the time. A smooth-hair chow is not a dog for a beginner). My husband stated (lol) to the young man who was interested that he planned to take this particular one home, but that there were a lot of other puppies available. It makes me think of all the people who pick a dog just on looks alone, not taking in consideration the temperament of the puppy and/or the breed or breeds (if mixed). Even with that in mind, there are personalities that come into play and nothing is a sure thing. Since my husband and I are basically retired, we have a lot of time to spend with our dog. He gets a lot of attention. And, yes, I guess you could say that this dog of ours is definitely spoiled (lol).

@LeverageShowFan : The Golden (Charlie) was a joy but you didn't mess with him if he didn't want to do it. He was crate trained until he decided he wasn't going to be. From then on he slept with whatever person he thought needed him but if it started storming we all had to be in one room with him guarding. He was everyone's dog but I was his master. I always told him if he bit me I'd bite him back. In his last years he was sweet to everyone. I'm guessing he was trying to make sure he got in the rainbow bridge door. I still tear up thinking about him. I could fall asleep with my head on him and he wouldn't move until I woke up.
Our husky we have now would never do that. At 12, he is still like a puppy running like crazy. We all love him but my son is his master. He is a lovable crazy dog!
Isn't it funny how much these animals get right in and find a big place in our hearts?

@ladybeachbum : Each one has his/her own distinct personality that is for sure. I love golden retrievers so I can understand your love for Charlie. And huskies are great, but not everybody can handle one ….. great bundles of energy. The border collie mix we had … well … we had to keep her engaged. When she got bored … lol … she seemed to get into mischief. (Some people actually think that the more intelligent a dog is, the easier it is to train the dog. Haha … so not true. The more intelligent a dog is, the more free will the dog has). I had found this border collie mix as a puppy in a ditch on a very busy trucker's road and picked her up & took her immediately to the vet & home. I thought my husband and I were going to get a divorce over me bringing her home (at first anyway). (Teeheehee … he was at work at the time, but I did call him & let him know that we had another "mouth" to feed). She was the chewiest little rascal one has ever seen and chewed up the hot tub housing to the point of making it look like a hot tub that a hillbilly or Fred Sanford would own. (Disclaimer: Not putting down hillbillies or Fred Sanford in any way …. big grin. In fact …. I always liked Fred Sanford and Son … such a cute show). Definitely had to kennel train her and keep her in her kennel at night after she was taken outside to the yard to go to the bathroom before bedtime. We … haha … were afraid of what we might find ( half chewed & disappearing sofa pillows and such) if she was free to roam. One day, after about three months, I caught a view of my husband sitting on the ground with Precious (our little border collie mix girl) in our backyard with his arm around her taking in the view. I wish I had a video of that moment. After that I figured out that he sort of liked Precious & that our marriage would most likely survive! Emoticon

@LeverageShowFan : Love our doggy stories. When I met my husband he didn't like dogs. I was "oh , well, he's been around for a lot longer than you so". He came to love his determination to get to me even if he had to jump over something almost 3 times his height. When it was time that I knew I needed to take him to have his last breath, DH came in and told me he was outside gone. He was so good he didn't want to put me through it. I totally believe that. I've had a couple of dogs that didn't connect as much but they still had a good life. One particularly chose the non dog person and was his all his life. I have so many dog stories because it seems like we always have more than one. Last year we had four and now only the husky and I can tell he is lonely. With the husky, he will have to chose our next one. He didn't like the last one we rescued when our friends son died and she was the last to still be not adopted. So, what did I do? On a facebook post "Just bring her home!" She came all the way from Maryland and picked me, too. She got bad cancer and there was nothing we could do. They almost had to send me to the bridge with her. I still tear up thinking of her. She was always right beside me. Tomorrow the husky gets a bath. He's all white and looking cream colored. Not sure if I will put him in the shower or outside tied to the truck. Wish me luck!
