This is what I'm talking about on a State level. Testing in the western half of I-35 is not dire. Does this look like a State that should continue the stay at home edict? In Harris County you bet it should continue. I suppose anyone can have their own opinion, but if I"m the Governor I'm leaving it to local authorities.

Crazy how Texas has done the 4th most amount of tests as any state.
But we are still bottom third in test per 1 million pop.
Texas is in the top ten for amount of cases but has the least deaths out of the top ten.
Once you look at the top 11th state for cases then drop 6 more to the 17th and it drops by half for total amount of cases.
Our death toll is more in line with states that have half the amount of cases then we do.

Some weird statistics, probably bad or incomplete data.

Texas's death should be doubled for their amount of cases once you look at the other states.
So why though?
If we are behind on testing than statistically we should have more deaths because our total cases should be more?
Or are we getting lucky and finding more positives per tests used?

OR is our daily death toll going to statistically double and triple in the next week to play catch up?

@MrsT : I see a governor that activated the guard to keep an eye on a federal operation mobilized into our collective backyards-not to an active duty military installation, but predominantly civilian lands.

I would hope the governor would continue to exercise this level of 'trust but verify' nature no matter who the president is.

But just for fun, try this on for size. Fathom the backlash in the media if the Trump administration moved a 'peacekeeping force' into Vacaville, Ca. Now let's assume the FBI simultaneously puts the Sierra Club on a watch list while the training operation (lets call it 'TEA rising' just for fun) designates the whole state as an "enemy state".

Do you really believe that wouldn't drum up some paranoia? How do you think Governor Moonbeam would respond?

Abbott was down-right controlled and measured given the 'Rock-and-a-hard place' he was put between. Because if the scenario I described above happened in real life, the media would go into enough hysteria, we'd forget what Coronavirus was.

TSUalum05 : Yeah, no problem. As a State as quoted in the article, we are next to last in testing per capita. What they ignore is that we are in the top six for deaths per million population. We are at 9 per million. Louisiana is 173 per million as an example. So as I said earlier, we need to make this more regional than a Statewide issue. So in parts of Texas.....like the western half......there is no dire need for testing. Continuing to keep the death count low is my major concern I say all of this as the highest risk you can get. Heart bypass, 30 years of diabetes. I'm definitely in the kill zone.

@Clydepuckett : i think you typo'd.
Texas is at 41st for deaths per mill pop. ( which is what you said 9 per mill. )
39 states are at 11 or higher deaths per mill.

@Clydepuckett : lol.
I been using this site to look at what is going on in what state.
Not to sound upset, but i am curious why our deaths are so low in comparison.

@WeveBecomeEastHouston : I didn't say what I thought he did or didn't do. Just giving you an article to show what they were talking about. 🤷🏼‍♀️ That's why I provided an article describing why he felt he had to do it.

@WeveBecomeEastHouston :

BTW I don't count the US territories in the rankings. I think we are better than 11th by my count on that site. Tied with several others at 9. We are one of the highest populated states with low deaths.

TSUalum05 : Typical Chronicle article. As WeveBecomeEastHouston correctly stated they cherry picked a metric to sell the fear. They neglected to acknowledge the deaths per capita where Texas is one of the lowest. Information I"ve got shows we are at 9 per million deaths as opposed to Louisiana at 173 per million. Should we test more? Absolutely. But fear sells and the Houston Comical proves it once again.

@Clydepuckett : Undetstood.

We still have people like those kids from UT Austin who took a jet to Mexico and more than half came back with the virus. To change a mindset, sometimes you have to create a panic, just like the Trump administration discussed the next couple of weeks and projected deaths.

Even though we are in the top 6th, that can change any moment. Some suggested that we haven't reached our peak. With someone in my family having testing positive, is in the hospital, and can barely breath, I could care less about seeing a metric based on death. When there's a chance she can die without us. So being in the top 6 deaths per capital doesn't mean anything to me. It's a terrible metric to see as a positive, especially when we don't know who can be infecting others.

But the bottom line is testing - whether its rural or not...And I believe that's something we agree on. But what would sucks is someone who is not showing signs can be infecting because they could be walking around with a false sense because we aren't seeing as many deaths as Louisiana.

@TSUalum05 : Yep. Just some critical thinking my friend. 79 yrs old Mom lives in Kerrville. They have 2 cases in Kerr county. She is taking caution as it's really not that much different for her and husband. But she really misses her Curve workouts. LOL.

But I have to ask you....deaths are unimportant to you? Your opinion is your own, but I thought the whole process was to avoid deaths.

What am I missing?
