[quotI agree 10 fries would be plenty & I leave a bunch on my plate . Edit Message[quote-end-tag-mismatch]
At Sammie I think the restaurants are trying with lots & lots of food to out do the others so we will keep eating at that one or theirs . And I agree with the person that says people drinking & smoking inside the bar spend more . I know I've noticed when we leave people in the bar area that I saw going into the restaurant are still over in the bar as we leave .

El Jalepeno lets you smoke in the back. Plenty of TVs and good food and drinks!

CelticStorm : In your own home unless someone there says no. I'm only a smoker if someone else is smoking and I am drinking.

@ladybeachbum : I applaud you restraint. I am struggling with those pesky things.

I hated when the City of Houston instituted it's ban as it forced business owners to possibly harm their own businesses - I know this because of the changes in places we went since we lived within a mile or two of the City/County line (i.e. ate at places in the county, not in the city limits {lost city sales tax income too!}). So I do respect an owner's wishes to operate their business as they see fit. But at some point, it almost feels discriminatory. It's not like they didn't serve alcohol on the larger, non-smoking side! Hell, from the times I've been in there, they can't fill up the NS side! Kinda reminds me of Bud Adams' demands before he took the Oilers to TN - couldn't fill the seats giving out free tickets!

@CelticStorm : I've noticed that too. It's very rare when we go there, but it's usually empty. I remember when that was the Fri night go to. (Rib Baskets were the bomb)

If the restaurants are changing their business models this drastically, there's a monetary reason why. They make more money off of non-smokers. If it was the other way around, they wouldn't eliminate their profit generator. It seems to be the chains doing this, maybe some mom and pop places around here still allow it.

@Sammee : They did it because it became law. That's the only reason. That law absolutely kills restaurants. Humble Inn lost so much biz that they eventually went under.

CelticStorm : I want to understand this correctly you are telling me that Applebee's primary marketing and brand image is to be a bar? So much for their iconic "Eatin good in the neighborhood" slogan or spending all that money on advertising riblets instead of drinks. They are seriously confused. Talk about bad branding.

@tinytim : Remember back when they began, they were always having drink specials and had a wide menu, that's because it was more of a bar. Parents started taking their kids there when it became a place they like to go for what they could get cheap for the family, then all of a sudden they had a dining room, which wasn't originally the case.

CelticStorm : I prefer Applebee's to Chili's any day of the week

@carol888 : Only thing I like better is Chili's burgers & flatbreads, way better quality.

Don't most of the local (non national chains) bars in Atascocita allow smoking, I think they all do except Time Out Tavern. Matter of fact if you cross the street into the 24 hour fitness parking lot there is On the Rox. Plenty of places in Atascocita for those that want to smoke and have a drink.

@tinytim : Time Out Tavern has a smoking section. It is now located on the patio.

In 2017, 14 of every 100 U.S. adults aged 18 years or older (14.0%) currently* smoked cigarettes. This means an estimated 34.3 million adults in the United States currently smoke cigarettes.2 More than 16 million Americans live with a smoking-related disease.1

Current smoking has declined from 20.9% (nearly 21 of every 100 adults) in 2005 to 14.0% (14 of every 100 adults) in 2017, and the proportion of ever smokers who have quit has increased.2

As a business, which customer base is more important to me the 14% or the 86%? Which one do I really go after?

@MHodge : there's two sides to that story, I drink but don't smoke and I'm much more likely to stay longer if there is no smoking allowed because I can sit and enjoy the smoke free area, compared to a place that allows smoking which I'll leave before being seating due to the smell or leave quickly after eating due to the smell. Who can enjoy a meal when it smells like a dirty ashtray? The longer I linger the more likely I am to have another drink or two or three.... and walk home.
