@tinytim : go back further.

And dont be fooled. Gulf war was over protecting oil interests. I was part of expeditionary force escorting tankers.

Regardless of the allie status, we dont tend to get involved where we dont have financial interests. After ww2, we did involve ourselves in a couple conflicts based on treaties established post ww2. But much central and south america involvement and middle east involvement isnt about saving the world from communism or dictators, but protecting our interests.

Look at the communist and dictatorial states we ignore, and those we dont and see what the determining factors are.

But, saudi has long been an allie and a financial interest -so I guess we are covered either way.

@redneckroy : Once again having deployed to Iraq, Bosnia, and Somalia while I was in the Army I disagree with you. Don't be fooled the United States government had no ownership in the oil tanker you escorted. Again I don't see how the Saudi are of financial interest to the United States Government as the United States Government has no ownership in their oil reserves or any field or refinery over there. You keep stating that financial interest but as of yet you have not told me how or where the US government has financial interest. I take you mean that American companies have a financial interest, when you state we have financial interest?

You can speculate that Iraq was of financial interest to the Government but if so it was a bad one, the return of investment was atrocious. What is your speculation on the financial interest in Bosnia, Somalia and Afghanistan? You will have to do a little better than just stating it.

@tinytim : all respect brother, and no vested interest in proving a point. It wasnt one ship we escorted but an extended program protecting shipping lanes. Part of the us navy purpose. Been running all day and at a concert now. I found a good wikipedua article that explains it in detail. Not sure I can post the link.

There are many reasons we involve ourselves internationally and it shifts over time. We have been a strong partner with Saudi since oil development began. If I started trying to state specifics without looking up correct facts, I would be wrong pretty quick, so I wont do that.

Google is there, and lots of great historical info. I had reason to know the history a while back

@redneckroy : I have googled and read extensively. Once again not a thing about United States Government financial interest even in the article you linked.

My deployments in Iraq, Bosnia, and Somilia was boots on the ground in the Army. Bosnia was peacekeeping under the UN, Somilia was humanitarian aid under the UN.

I am well aware that Saudi has long been an ally nation, but the United States Government has no ownership in any company that does business in Saudi.
