but the insurance went up so much I was taking home less money than before the raise
 
@Weathergirl5 : Very true! This is one reason I hate it when people say teachers make too much money. Raises in school districts (if they get one) are often minimal at best.

@Luckysis : Yep. And with raises usually come raises in insurance premiums. For paras and other support staff the raise is usually minimal. (For example my last year I was making 18K a YEAR. I got a 3% raise which was about $540- not much by any means. But the premiums went up way more than that and they also raised the deductible) So at the end of the day I took home less money after the raise.

The funding for the raises is coming from the State bill that passed last week. This is why districts across the state are giving raises.

@HumbleGirl : As someone who has benefited nothing from the public school system, and in fact traumatized by it, I'd say that simply providing kids with a skillshare login would be more cost effective and likely about as consistent in sending people to a college degree.
