Another delay. The best I can ascertain from a translated Spainsh website, their plan was to send capsules to carry workers down the drilled vertical shaft to get to the level where they can dig the horizontal shaft by hand. The drill did not evenly drill the vertical shaft and the "tube", which I assume is the capsule, cannot fit. They have decided to refill the vertical shaft with "fine earth" and redrill it to a larger circumference. They don't have a timeline for any of this. Once this problem is fixed, then they will start with the horizontal tunnel, which will take another 12-14 hours. This false-hope roller coaster has got to be excruciating for his parents.
@nikkiole : Unfortunately, yes. I read a Sunday interview with a pediatrician from Spain who said that he could very well be alive. He gave physiological explanations and seemed confident about it.
Julen Roselló rescue: "This is a work of humanitarian civil engineering"
Members of the Hunosa Mining Rescue Brigade are now getting ready to be lowered in teams of two and dig a four-meter gallery to connect with the borehole, a laborious task that will performed in 40- to 60-minute shifts and which is expected to take around 24 hours.
