That's understandable. I think, if someone tries to "game" the system (posting clickbaity stuff or lots of fluff) it would backfire, by design.
It comes down to -- how many of your posts are providing Value to the group, and are Appreciated by lots of other people? Figuring out what to post can be tricky...but everyone gets feedback in that respect via ThumbsUp/Heart/Laugh's and Mentions. Getting more people involved in your conversations is good for your score. Posting local stuff is good for your score, too. "Providing value" can mean a variety of things...sharing useful information, providing valuable insight, entertaining people, or just making them laugh.
Also keep in mind that the score is based on breadth and depth, over time...having one wildly successful post will Not affect your score very much, whereas having 10 of them would. Having 30 posts with a single ThumbsUp on each of them would not affect your score very much, but 30 posts with 30 ThumbsUp each, would. And this score is based over time, so don't expect an instant score boost after a day or two of posting. This "breadth and depth" factor is why it's hard for people to see instant score improvement, but it has the benefit of being more difficult to game/fake.
Lastly, ask yourself how much should you care about the score, if it represents widespread appeal on the boards? If you have 3-4 friends on here, and your stuff makes them happy...that's a pretty nice thing, too...regardless of how it affects your score.
And the score ultimately is based on how *other people* react to your posts, which you only have so much control over. So if you only want to post what *you* want to post, score or no score, that's OK too.
