Perhaps the rational of using the polls as the deciding reason for putting people in the debate is the fact that the debates are not really for those who have their minds made up. There is really nothing that can or will be said in the debate that is going to change the minds of those who have already decided on their candidate.

The debates are really for those who are undecided or "on the fence". And perhaps they are using the thought process that the majority of people (although this year it is not as big of a majority) have voiced support for either Trump or Hillary. So, they may believe - correctly or incorrectly - that the majority of the undecided voters will go to one or the other.

Now, to @EddyFree's question above:

Assuming that the debate IS for those who are undecided, I would like to hear both candidates discuss their plan for reducing the debt, or at least getting us closer to balancing the budget, without significantly raising taxes. Both sides have indicated that they are going to build up the country, but that takes money. And where is all this money going to come from?

I am excited to watch tonight. Immigration is my #1 concern. Not sure if that falls under security or will be in another debate. I am hoping they stay focused and don't spend the hour and a half attacking each other. Although entertaining, I am not interested in that.

Each side will declare their own the winner, each candidate will say many things they have been coached to say, honesty be damned.

With each promise, voters should be asking as to the realistic capability of the president to deliver, or if that falls under a different legislative power, or if it is fiscally reasonable.

The honest politicians are already on the sidelines.

Its pretty low ball of Hillary to have Mark Cuban on the front row, who is he to know anything about national security or immigration. I wish Trump would follow through on his threat of putting Gennifer Flowers next to him.
You know she is desperate when she has to resort to this.

@Kingslayer

Why is it lowball, I am sure both have many of their major contributors attend.
Mark is a showman just like Trump.

@niceguy :

Exactly what I would like to hear also with no BS. Also include their stance on social security/medicare reform, which is a very major issue.

Also, if interest rates rise in the future, another big piece of the expense pie will rise.

Additionally, if civilian jobs become available, I am not sure the military can meet the recruitment goals to expand Trump's vision of the military.

I really don't know what I want to see. Well actually, I'd like to see entirely different candidates. Can someone make that happen? I'm really **** y'all let Trump get there. Y'all had other choices!!!! Ridiculous, honestly.

I personally think some people believe the president is this all powerful being that can get things done with the wave of a hand. In actuality the president is mostly relegated to setting forth a list of proposals that they hope can get through Congress. It is this body that controls the federal purse strings.

In regards to social ills like the murder rate, a president has absolutely no control over that. They can propose placing a thousand more police officers in each major city and it still might not be effective in reducing certain types of crime. One, the question would be who's going to pay for it, and secondly it has been proven that morality cannot be legislated.

In regards to the money given to Iran by President Obama it was Iran's money to begin with. He returned to them assets that were frozen by the U.S. government. So that money did not come from taxpayers.

Anyway the debate should be interesting.

Since I already know her "policy" scripted answers I would like to know some personal info about Hilary.
1. Did you and or do cheat on Bill?
2. do you sing in the shower?
3. When was the last time you went shopping at a regular store?
4. When was the last time you drove a vehicle?
5. Have you ever smoked weed?
6. What prescription medications are in your medicine cabinet?
7.. how many vacations a year will you take as president and how many do you take now?

Stuff like that, really from both candidates
