I understand. Emotionally many of us we to keep our kids home. But for my household we don't view it as practical or ultimately helpful to their growth as adults.
We have told our kids that most likely we are going to die before them which tends to be the natural order. That being the case we want them fully prepared to survive on their own once we are gone. The fact of the matter is there are adults that are living at home well into their 30s and beyond that have never paid so much as a home utility bill. They know nothing of maintaining a household budget or any other practical knowledge of caring for themselves outside of their parents constant guidance.
So when they inherit life insurance money or property many will not know how to manage it because they will lack the life skills to deal with it. That's why we have insisted that they learn to stand on their own two feet in order to prevent them from being knocked flat on their back by life later.
