@Sammee
I like fossil hunting, we have found small pieces of petrified wood along Spring creek while out biking. Just curious where are some places to go?

@HUMBLEGIRL.

Same here Humble Girl. No Spring Break for baseballers. Or Saturdays for that matter. District play actually starts SB week. Not sure how that's legal lol.

@bap Ladonia, Texas in the North Sulphur River. Mineral Wells, Texas. Post Oak Creek in Sherman, Texas has fossilized Shark teeth.

Ladonia and Sherman Creek are marine fossils from the Late Cretaceous period 65-90 million years old. Mineral Wells fossils are around 300 million years old, from the Mississippian period, if I remember correctly.

The North Sulphur River also has Indian artifacts dating all the way back to the Paleo-Indians 10,000-12,000 years ago, as well as Ice Age mammal fossils. The erosion from rainstorms washes these fossils out and they can be found lying around in the dry riverbed.

@bap FYI, the steps to the North Sulphur River at Ladonia are very, very crude. They vary in size, but most being about 2.5-3 feet high concrete blocks going down about 30+ feet. Short people, like me, and kids will have to hoist themselves up onto several of them. DD was able to negotiate them at 5 yrs. Also, take rubber boots, clean clothes, water for washing up and old towels...it is always very, very, very muddy.

If you have little bitty kids, Mineral Wells is perfect. It is an old quarry, easy in and easy out. Lots of little fossils. Gets hot as heck down in there, though.

Also, there are dino foot tracks in Glen Rose. That's pretty cool to see. Don't go after a rain because the tracks will be under water.

@Sammee
That is good to know, my SIL is coming in this May with 3 little ones 3-5, we are trying to plan out a fun visit for them, it's their first visit here. Mineral Wells sounds like the most kid friendly. I really appreciate the information.

All of us big kids are eager to check out the other locations Emoticon

We only travel when all the kids are in school except some Christmas trips as a family that our kids & grandkids take with us .

That is one of the privileges of having grown kids ,we can go somewhere at the drop of a hat & we do & don't have to travel when MOST are traveling .
