Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo votes to revoke Harris County judge's ex officio title
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo board voted to revoke Judge Lina Hidalgo's ex officio title amid an ongoing feud. On Wednesday, Hidalgo told ABC13 that she had been "manhandled" by staff at the rodeo while trying to access the dirt floor to the sold-out Megan Moroney concert on Tuesday night. Rodeo officials told Eyewitness News they have no knowledge of any physical altercation but confirm that Hidalgo and her guests were denied entry to the floor because they lacked chute-seat tickets. Rodeo officials added that prior to the incident, Hidalgo had attended on three occasions, each time with wristbands provided to her and her guests. "In total, 21 tickets were provided to her across those visits, including for the J Balvin, Dwight Yoakam, and Luke Bryan concerts, with a total value of close to $9,000. Chute seats are among the most premium experiences at RODEOHOUSTON, with tickets priced at approximately S425 each. Many guests purchase these seats specifically for the opportunity to be close to the action on the dirt and enjoy a special evening at the Rodeo," the Rodeo said in a statement. On top of that, on March 10, the Rodeo reported receiving information that she wanted to attend the Megan Moroney concert, as well as Creed, Chris Stapleton, and Shaboozey concerts, all on the dirt. However, for the Megan Moroney concert, Rodeo officials said they told Hidalgo's team the seats were not available, but they would still have access to the suite. Hidalgo wanted better access for her guests and went to the floor anyway, and that's when she says she was shoved and kicked out, even comparing it to cattle. Now, she's calling for surveillance video to be released and is requesting a meeting with rodeo leadership. The Rodeo team said its team "respectfully addressed the situation, but the interaction became difficult for staff and security." But ultimately, Hidalgo would not return to her seat in the suite and was escorted out. "We are very disappointed in Judge Hidalgo's actions Tuesday night and since. But we must enforce the same access policies for everyone," the Rodeo shared. "I don't know what it is, but it's not the spirit of the rodeo, it's not the spirit of this community, and frankly, it makes me even more afraid for people in our community who are not white-passing," Hidalgo said. In addition, they said that "the idea that she was treated this way because she's a woman or Hispanic is absolutely false and insulting." Read the full statement below:

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo returns to rodeo seeking video of altercation, again forced to leave
Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo leaves NRG Stadium on Thursday, March 12, 2026, after reviewing security footage of an incident during Tuesday's sold-out concert at the venue in Houston. Hidalgo was removed from the venue after attempting to access an area of the venue for which she did not have tickets.

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo held a brief news conference outside NRG Stadium Thursday evening before she was once again escorted out of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, as she was Tuesday night. Hidalgo's appearance at the stadium late Thursday was the latest in a series of events sparked by her removal from a Megan Moroney concert held at NRG Stadium on Tuesday night, which came after she attempted to access a premium seating area for which she did not have tickets. Hidalgo returned to the rodeo Thursday in a bid to secure security camera footage of the incident, in which she said security personnel "manhandled" her. But the judge said Thursday that none of the cameras captured detailed footage of the incident. "You can't really make things out because it's very dark and it's from a distance," Hidalgo said. She called on officials to install more cameras at NRG Stadium "so we can make sure a situation like this doesn't happen again." Rodeo staff supplied Hidalgo with footage earlier Thursday, which she shared with reporters prior to returning to NRG Stadium. The chute area of the stadium, where the incident occurred, appears not to have been covered by cameras close enough to make out any detail. There was also no footage captured of the county's suite, the area to which Hidalgo and her guests did have access Tuesday night. A rodeo spokesperson said during Hidalgo's Thursday return to the stadium that the judge did not have access to the rodeo grounds and was only permitted to briefly address reporters before a police detail escorted her back to her vehicle. Hidalgo, who is not seeking reelection and is in the last year of her term, added that she planned to move on from the incident. "I think at this point we've done all we can do, and I hope we can move forward from this," Hidalgo said. "I sure plan to." www.houstonchronicle .com/politics/housto n/article/lina-hidal go-rodeo-again-

Lina always tries to play the victim. She's only out for herself and not the county. Those seats did not belong to her and the people that bought those seats wanted those seats back. And she threw a fit because she felt she was entitled to have them, even if she didn't pay for them. And then she brings guests with her and a couple of kids. She's embarrassing herself and the county. But this has always been what she's done. And then when she went back, she wanted to look at the video. She wanted to show that she had been manhandled and she wasn't. She's totally embarrassed herself.
Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo says she was 'kicked out' of Houston Rodeo concert and 'manhandled' Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo was asked to leave the Houston Rodeo Tuesday evening after she was denied entry to a concert at NRG Stadium, according to a since-deleted post she made to Facebook. Hidalgo said she was "manhandled" after she and a group of guests, including two children, were prohibited from attending the sold-out Megan Moroney concert at NRG Stadium. A representative for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, in a prepared statement, said the area Hidalgo attempted to access was limited to "chute seat ticket holders only," premium seating priced at $425. The rodeo spokesperson said Hidalgo and her group were "directed back to their ticketed seating," after they were denied access to the "dirt area." Hidalgo, however, said she was "kicked out" of the stadium in the lengthy Facebook post. "Before I could talk to the director, the men physically shoved me and threatened me with arrest," the county judge wrote. "They asked me to leave the county's stadium, which I did, leaving my guests to watch the concert elsewhere." Hidalgo's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday afternoon. Harris County, which owns NRG Stadium, leases it each year to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. High-ranking county officials and their guests enjoy regular free access to performances held at NRG via a county-owned suite in the stadium. Hidalgo was among those who received free access to a Beyoncé concert held in late June, for instance. Hidalgo said Tuesday's incident happened because she is a woman, and said it may have been politically motivated. "Look, in such a divided country, perhaps those guys just disagree with my politics. They had the chance to change that twice at the ballot box and lost," Hidalgo wrote. "If it had been a different county executive, a man, I'm willing to bet nobody would've been shoved, the director of the rodeo and the head of security of the rodeo wouldn't have been deployed to keep the county leader out, and things would've just been fine." She ended her post with a call for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo to provide information on how much it had charged previous county judges for concert access. www.houstonchronicle .com/politics/housto n/article/lina-hidal go-kicked-out-r

@Maxsmom :
I know the police union posted it but it clearly says it's satire, more than once. They pulled the pic from a 5 year old story.

I read an article earlier that said Lina and her people were told earlier in the day that the dirt tickets were sold out so they wouldnt have access. If this is correct, this seems very drama seeking.
