Why would anyone buy a home costing that much in a subdivision that is open to the public? Bad move IMHO. Keep it gated. Buy dirt and get some cows if you have that much moola.

@tflea : I agree. Some friends (all had looked at homes in Balmoral and decided against it) and I were talking about Balmoral a few months ago. We all agreed that the HOA fees can't possibly be high enough to pay for sufficient reserves to pay for repairs to the lagoon that will be crazy expensive in the future. It is a massive swimming pool. Pools eventually have to have their pumps, filtration systems, etc. replaced. The homeowners are looking at massive special assessment in the future.

@RajunCajun : I had friends that bought and then saw the rental houses across the street and did not follow through, they lost a couple thousand but know they are happier in Walden

The Lagoon in Atascocita has been a nightmare for the people that live there, and local areas that have to deal with some of their mess. Seriously who needs stuff like this. More water above us will just make our area flood worse.

@Carol888 : Yeah. I feel like we dodged a bullet by not buying in Balmoral. Plus, We fell in love with all of the trees in the Groves.

Another thing about this lagoon project. The company that is heading this new project up is the same group that did the lagoon in Texas City. I read multiple complaints by residents in the development in Texas City. Same complaints as Balmoral even though it is a different developer. I actually saw an ad on a social media site for the lagoon in Texas City-thought I might put it on my list of places to check out in the future. I read reviews and there were numerous complaints that this wasn't truly a water park as advertised. I read complaints from people that bought tickets and said that the service was crummy, etc. They had a host of complaints, but I don't recall of them. Mostly that it was an overpriced, oversized swimming pool. Then there were complaints from the residents that they were restricted to a small section of the lagoon that was marked for residents only. Basically, the general public that bought tickets were very unhappy and so were the residents. I think the idea of a massive lagoon has already reached the pinnacle of popularity and is going to go downhill quickly.
