Teen on e-bike struck by vehicle in Atascocita area, Precinct 4 says

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A teen was struck by a vehicle while riding an e-bike in the Atascocita area, according to Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman.

The constable's office said the 13-year-old boy was riding in the 16800 block of West Lake Houston Parkway on Saturday night when the auto-pedestrian crash happened.

In an update, Precinct 4 said the boy is recovering at home after EMS treated his injuries.

Precinct 4 said that the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

The intersection of West Lake Houston Parkway and Madera Run Parkway was shut down during the investigation, Precinct 4 said.

@West-Tex: Thankful that the young man lived through this. I don't think driving one of those at NIGHT is safe, whether driven by an adult or a child.

@KathyMarshall : Agreed. I know The Groves has been having trouble with ebikes and e scooters on the trails because they sent an email about this recently. (I'm still on the email list.) This nonsense, along with golf carts, is going on all over. An 11 year old was driving a golf cart and was in a bad accident in our area. She lived to tell about it. But the whole things was nuts because the driver that hit the golf cart left the scene and has been arrested. But the driver was actually not in the wrong. The kid driving the golf cart was. Only thing that I can think of is that the driver was maybe under the influence so left the scene. The parents of the golf cart driver were outraged. Yeah. I get it. But it wouldn't have happened if the kid had not been allowed to drive. Illegal for unlicensed drivers to drive golf carts. And it was on a busy street. The mother admitted to giving permission. Guess what? The parents have received a citation. It is all ridiculousness that didn't have to happen. The kids in the golf cart are very fortunate.

@West-Tex : e-bike riders have to obey the same rules of the road expected of bicyclists and automobile drivers, no?
