Child in 'serious condition' after being rescued from Humble-area pool, sheriff's office says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A child was rescued from an Humble-area pool and is in serious condition, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office shared that the near-drowning happened at the apartment complex at 15808 Crystal Terrace Drive in the Humble area on Saturday night.

The child, who is believed to be 8 years old, is in serious condition at the hospital after they were pulled from the community beach club pool.

Gonzalez urged water safety during the holiday weekend following this and a separate tragic drowning incident. On Saturday, a child died after being found unresponsive in a Cypress-area pool.

@MrsT :
So sad, but what makes me even sadder is that I could not have saved either one of them. I am not a swimmer, but I would have tried. I had CPR training along time ago, but not up to date! I guess this is a reminder!

So sad. I was a over the top Mom when my son was in the water. I started him swimming in early years. Our parents didn't make sure we learned and I learned myself. My elder sister never did and I tried to teach her and she wanted to but when her nose in the water she couldn't.

@Daiquiri : I'm a swimmer, but I don't know that I swim well enough to save anyone. I've gotten kind of slow because I don't laps on a regular basis anymore. It is one thing to be able to swim but another to be able to save someone from drowning. But I've been a "water bug" for my entire life. I love the water, and I have to make myself get out of the pool. I feel it is important for everyone to get their kids swimming as soon as possible --especially in Louisiana where there is water everywhere.

@RajunCajun :
We didn't have access to pools. My mother did give me lessons at the YMCA, but then I didn't get to practice. Plus I was pitiful at all sports. LOL

@Daiquiri : Oh, I understand about being pitiful at all sports. I'm a total PE dropout. I was in exercise class this morning. I was thinking while exercising that I am still surprised at myself for voluntarily exercising considering that I used to hide in the back of PE class and do as little as possible. lol And here I am going to class as often as possible. Trying to stay in decent shape for my health. Took good health for granted when I was a kid.
