TXDOT Public Meeting - Widening FM 1960

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Houston District, will hold a public meeting regarding the proposed improvements to Farm-to-Market (FM) 1960 from Business Farm Road 1960A to Lake Houston, in Harris County, Texas. The meeting will be held on February 23, 2016, at Timberwood Middle School, 18450 Timber Forest Drive, Humble, Texas 77346. The meeting will be held in an open house format from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The purpose of the public meeting is to update the public regarding the proposed project and receive comments. The project proposes to widen the existing FM 1960 roadway from a four-lane undivided roadway to a six-lane (three lanes in each direction with the outside lanes being shared-use lanes) divided roadway with curb and gutter and a raised median. A grade separation would be constructed at Atascocita Road, West Lake Houston Parkway, and Farmingham Drive. Additionally, 5-foot wide sidewalks are planned for both sides of FM 1960, outside of the bicycle shared use lane. The project would require approximately 48 acres of new right-of-way (ROW). Commercial and residential displacements will occur and will be further evaluated during the environmental review process.

Maps showing the proposed project’s location and design drawings will be available for review at the public meeting. This information will also be available by appointment for review Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m, excluding state holidays, at the TxDOT Houston District Office, located at 7600 Washington Avenue, Houston, Texas 77007. To schedule an appointment at the Houston District please contact Sharon Xu at (713) 802-5265. Maps and design may also be viewed at the TxDOT North Harris Area Office located at 16803 Eastex Freeway (US 59), Humble, Texas77396. The Area Office can be reached at (281) 319-6400.

All interested citizens are invited to attend this public meeting. Written comments from the public regarding this project may be submitted for a period of 10 business days following the meeting. Written comments may be submitted either in person or by mail to the TxDOT District Office, Director of Project Development , P.O. Box 1386, Houston, Texas 77251. Written comments must be postmarked or emailed to [email protected] by March 9, 2016, to be included in the Public Meeting Summary.

The public meeting will be conducted in English. Persons interested in attending the meeting who have special communication or accommodation needs, or need an interpreter, are encouraged to contact the TxDOT District Public Information Officer at TxDOT (713) 802-5076. Requests should be made at least two days prior to the public meeting. Every reasonable effort will be made to accommodate these needs.

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried-out by TxDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 16, 2014, and executed by FHWA and TxDOT.

What a mess this will be. I wonder how the residential and commercial displacement will take place. That's a lot of homes and storefronts. Meadows? Trails? Kingwood Glen?

Very much needed...just not looking forward to it all.

looking at the plans...it seems the overpass will begin in front of IHOP, bypassing AT Rd and WLH. Not sure I see that as a benefit to "local" traffic really.

I say put in one of those New Jersey dogbones at 1960 and WLH.

A propose project that will only benefit those who travel from Humble to Huffman that will save time only during peek travel times during the week but affect the residents with more noise and inconvenience when trying to get to many stores in the area and will make our area look like a freaking freeway and provide shelter for the homeless and panhandlers from the rain and sun.

I agree with saving the trees, that was one of the top reasons we bought out here, but the crime rate and construction that requires less tress and making us want to move.

I like it.

about damn time.

any ideas on the number of lives this will save over a 10 year period?

How about hours saved from not sitting the the lights at WLHP? (by the way - peak hours which require waiting for multiple light cycles seems to be @ 12 hrs / day on weekends and not much less during the week.

Very excited about the "divided highway" and "median" parts. We've needed that for so long.

The medians will stop left turns any place you want, a pain at first, but we will adapt. Haven't seen the plans yet but pretty sure the elevated portion from Atascocita Rd. to Farmingham will include local access road. This will move through traffic through the area reducing backups in the area. Curbs mean the ditches along each side will be filled with storm drains installed. The 40+ acres of additional land needed really isn't that much given the length of
The project. We will all be affected during the construction phase but progress doesn't come without a price and we will all be better when it's over.
