>> SCHS should be able to accomidate more than 3200.

AHS has between 3100-3200 currently, and is at capacity.. SCHS is larger than AHS.. their gold house has 2 stories.. AHS is just 1 story.

What about HHS? That school is a ghost town and has several rooms (halls) not being used...

@tommie:

Both AHS and SCHS are 435,000 SF.

Didn't AHS have close to 5k students at one time?? Emoticon

@brightlights:

Have you been inside of both of the campuses?

If they both have the same square footage, someone needs to remeasure....

Yes, I have, many times. They're laid out a little differently, I agree. But same structure/builder/architectural plan with virtually the exact same square footage according to the building specs, unless that information has been revised since the completion of SCHS. *shrug*

I think the most AHS ever had was between 3400 and 3500. That was before SCHS opened up in 2010.

>> They should have built KPHS as a larger school and put more students from KW there. Then all of Atascocita north of 1960 to KHS and they would have had more room at AHS.

@BusyMommy:

HELL NO! They wanted to do that back when the Fall Creek whiners were complaining. I stood up at one of the community town halls regarding the zoning and said it was ridiculous to move kids to KHS just so some cry-baby parent didn't have to send their child to an "underpriviledged school" (their words, not mine.). Do you have any idea what it would be like for those kids to have to go to KHS. (or visa versa). Would you have wanted to be rezoned to your rival HS when you were a student? Those who live outside the bubble....

And no, we don't need another HS right now. SCHS and HHS are not at capacity. New schools cost money and more homes do not bring the tax dollars in that are needed for those. Hopefully Generation Park businesses will give us some much needed tax revenue for schools.

@cheryltom:

Actually from what I hear - Generation Park tax $$ is going to Sheldon ISD not Humble ISD.. I hopw I am wrong but thats what I heard..

Really?! I thought it was right by Summerwood? I really don't know where the HISD boundaries are though so very well could be. That would be a bummer.

@cheryltom:

A small portion of Summerwood is actually in Sheldon ISD, including HEB and the land immediately south of Chase and Carl's Jr.

How about the lines be redrawn to send some of the kids at AHS to HHS? Seems like that would solve the overcrowding problem.... HHS has a little over 1600 kids... and was renovated to accommodate closer to 3000. I also heard that the Generation Park funds were for Sheldon ISD via a Chamber of Commerce event.

I heard the same thing from a realtor who was at that event. FANTASTIC! We get lots of new residential areas due to this development but no tax revenue from it. Emoticon

I agree. Re-zone and re-vamp HHS makes the most sense to me. Our over crowding problem is here now and will only get worse.

I think one of the major problem is that Humble ISD seem to want to keep Humble ISD via like a Title 1 school to ensure to get additional funding from the State. I would like to see the schools more balanced but they aren't. The lines have been redrawn one time too many changing things over and over - and it wont get better. Just glad that one of my kids is done and one is almost done at AHS. So just got one left to go.

I thought it was because the railroad tracks divides the county and the bridges of Lake Houston are on the south side of the tracks...

Makes sense to me.
