mini dachshunds

I love my two

@macdaddy:

Mine is aggressive and bossy. And that bark when he gets freaked out!!! It's more like an ear piercing howl/scream! I've heard other doxies sound just the same so it must be the breed, no?

@lola knows my furbabies! Before my husband passed away, we used to take them to the dog park, where we met @lola and her pups.

Thanks for the sweet words about my girls! They are great to have around!

I would agree with lola, rescues are great! Even though my two are not really, we had one in the past, she was a great dog and lived 18 yrs.

Weims are great, but they are Velcro dogs. They love being around people and if you spend too much time on the laptop, they will let you know. My doxie will get a toy out of the box and play with it herself. She doesn't need me, except to feed her.

Weims will not sleep on the floor, they want the pillows, not even the foot of the bed will work for mine! They are very smart dogs. Mine can turn on my bathroom faucet to get her a drink of water. But she doesn't turn it off. So now I keep the door closed. I did not teach her, she watched me and copied what I did. You have to be the boss of them or they will boss you around.

They are so pretty and their eyes are what's different. They look almost human. Their eyes are blue when they are born and then usually change to amber. They can be silver or blue in color. They are super sweet dogs.

@lana7018: These are great because you travel a lot. You don't have to get a pup sitter.

I have three dogs one lab, cocker spaniel, and chihuahua. My chihuahua is great with my kids and also acts as a great motion sensor as she will let me know when someone is outside.

>> Oh, and if they get out of the house without a leash, be prepared to go on a wild goose chase to get them back!

@Littlegoo:

Heavy shredders??

@Codyb:

Our Shiba, Wolfie just shedded pretty heavily (blew out his undercoat) due to the changing of the seasons. This happens twice a year. The hair just kind of comes out in chunks, and I always have a great time plucking it out (this doesn't hurt him at all). It's actually quite therapeutic! I actually prefer the shedding in chunks than single hairs shedding one by one constantly.

This is what it looks like when they start to "blow their coat".

I agree with the others about rescuing/adopting. We have obtained dogs from reputable breeders as well as obtained a couple of "rescues" over the years. We did get our Newfoundland from a breeder (it's almost impossible to find a Newfie that needs adopting) but we got our Shiba, Wolfie as a rescue, and he has been the best Shiba that I have ever been around (due to his previous owners training/socializing him early). He is extremely patient with our 2 kids.

Our Newfie is also a 99% indoor dog, but they are high maintenance. 120-150 lbs. of living hair-balls. I can have my house perfectly clean, and 10 minutes later, I will see a black "hair tumbleweed" roll across the living room floor. I think I have to sweep our wood and tile floors numerous times a day to keep the Newfie hair from accumulating. Plus, they don't have the longest life spans (8-10 years on average) and she's already 5.5 years. They are amazing family dogs, but require a lot of upkeep and attention. If you require an immaculate house at all times, Newfies are not the breed for you.
