I notice more and more people drifting all over the road - across lanes - I assume from playing with their phones.

I generally ignore them and try to distance myself - but when they try to share my lane with me, I generally just honk to get their attention. Happened three times in one day a couple of weeks ago.

Sometimes I feel lucky to make it home.

TDY to where? There is no escaping it. The only place that I have been where most people are genuinely decent is Ireland! I'm thinking of all of the places I have lived, and people drive crappy in San Francisco, New Mexico is the leader in drunk driving, Washington D.C. area - crappy drivers, and lots of rude people. As far as the U.S.goes, people are just getting more and more rude. I remember the people in Georgia being really nice, but that was almost 16 years ago. As time goes on, people are just getting worse.

It's not only bad drivers. It's bad people in a hurry. In a store as I was unloading groceries a lady swooped in behind me and started unloading her stuff before I finished. Every time her stuff slid over towards checkout counter, I had to slide it back. What is wrong with people, why do they have to be in a such a hurry?!!

We live in the midst of a group of Very Important People. The Elite. The Entitled.

Honestly, I don't know. But I think it is a lack of respect in all age groups.

Maybe some have lost the ability to distinguish between real life and video games. I think I read that somewhere.

Anger.

I think people eat like crap, and so they feel poorly, angry and rages with blood sugar swings, sick, hurting, unable to run or lift or make love - bloated, weak, unhealthy - we start to have low self esteem.

I think we have lost the benefit of the concept of "Elders" - that there are wise, loving older adults - grandparents or church or extended family - a group of older concerned folks that you are accountable to but also that you could go to for help and guidance and advice. No one wants to appear weak.

I think we are disconnected from one another because of overuse of media and screens, the internet, facebook and overcrowding - all of which turns other people into "things" that are in our way or slowing us down, taking up our time, buying up all the good whatever that we didn't even know we wanted until we saw someone take the last one. We've dehumanized those around us.

I think we're scared. Scared of people that don't look like us, vote like us, scared that someone will break into our homes, our neighborhoods or our country and take something that we want - take our jobs, our tax money, our jewelry - maybe stretch us too far with different ideas about marriage, gender, sex and the family unit. Take our certainly about God and love and who we are. We're scared so we hunker down and shiver and worry and arm ourselves and hide in huge cars with locked doors, and huge houses with locked doors and cameras and security gates and in offices and cubicles with walls, security badges, everywhere we go there are cameras, alarms, passwords. Gotta Keep everyone out, away, don't touch me. Don't look at me. Then we wonder why we're lonely.

Thanks @Sheltie_Momma.

I hate it when a person (friend/family member) I am with is not actually there.

A law should be passed no phones r texting while driving! It's a car not a phone booth! JMO

@lynnsgirl:

I agree, but Texas is all about personal freedom and, therefore, such legislation would be yet another "invasion". Obviously, those of us driving around, you know, actually aware and paying attention should respect the freedoms of, and yield to those self-appointed More Important People that choose to multi-task while driving.

I am going to try for Alaska next time it opens up. I know what you mean about our old hometown and the locations you mentioned.

Yeah, Alaska would be awesome, I bet the cold would get old after awhile. One of my dear friends who grew up in the middle of nowhere in the Sierra foothills ended up moving there and living in Sitka for awhile, and loved it, and I saw a lot of photos that she took and they were amazing. Because her young son was diagnosed with diabetes, they ended up moving to the Bay Area for medical reasons, and she really misses Alaska.

Once our youngest is a little older, I want to take the family on an Alaskan cruise, and also add on a train trip through Denali National park. Can't wait! Of course I will also have to go on a wild orca watching trip! Maybe have the chance to kayak among the orcas.

I remember visiting anchorage meeting with the vessels captain at 19 looking for a fast paying job until the guy interviewing me was missing three fingers and I asked him about it and he laughed saying it was a hook accident. I bailed after the interview and went home right away. I am planning a trip to Tongass national forest with a relative in the next year and go hiking. My wife said the closest she will get to snow is lake Tahoe, CA.
