Hell no!!!!!!!

He made Houston a sanctuary city.....
Willfully violated the law, would not detain illegal aliens who broke the law and would not contact or work with ICE to enforce our illegal immigration issues.....

No thanks

This is off topic from the original thread, but he was the mayor of the city and felt that his police force could do a better job by focusing on dangerous criminals and traffic safety. Imagine if HPD started capturing undocumented immigrants. That would mean a police officer trying to take care of a routine traffic stop would suddenly be involved in a high speed chase that would put everyone's lives in danger if the driver of the vehicle was an undocumented immigrant. Imagine trying to be a detective, investigating a murder in a community where everyone was afraid the cops were going to deport them. Imagine the crime and hostility that could result against local law enforcement if local residents had family members deported by HPD.

As I said before, Bill White was a pragmatist who felt that his job as mayor was to make the city run as smoothly, peacefully, and prosperously as possible. He is not an ideologue, so even if he opposed illegal immigration, he is not the kind of person who would send a city into chaos in order to achieve that goal. Again, while I disagree with him on several issues, I think we could all respect that type of pragmatic style of governing because it actually works. It certainly works a lot better than the ideology generated stuff that possesses most politicians who care more about their party and they ideology than about the wellbeing of the people.

@macdaddy:

Part of being Mayor, with a budget, is to allocate resources and funding...Would you have been opposed if he allocated funding for a "Jaywalking Task Force"?

@EddyFree

I could see the commercial now:

Hi, I'm Mayor Bill White. This election is no different than the dozens I've seen and the many that I've campaigned and won: full of back biting, insults and false allegations, distracting good citizens like you from what really matters: your future and the future of this great city and state. In the past two years, my administration has manged to crack down on vicious jaywalkers, with over five thousand of these lawless criminals imprisoned, and away from proper society. Because I'm not a man who ever allows crime to go unpunished. This year, if I'm re elected, I fully intend to carry on with legislation to initiate a Littering Task Force, with the most high tech weaponry and technology to catch these psychopaths in the act. So, please, don't let the opposition blind you. I'm Mayor Bill White and I care.

John Cornyn is a wonderful man. We've had the privilege of working for him in DC. He fights for Texas by doing what is best....not always the most popular. He simply ended the conflict so that the government could move forward. He doesn't agree with all of the spending, but we have no choice. The government has to function.
I also personally know Ted and Heidi and they are a wonderful couple, as well. Ted is too radical and while I agree with most all that he stands for, one must know when to stand and when to sit. He's too politically immature, but he will learn.
Cornyn and Cruz are PERFECT for Texas!!!

By "politically immature" do you mean his pockets haven't been lined well enough for him to know WHERE to stand on certain issues yet?
