I like to wrap the stocking gifts too, but always in wrapping paper only for the stockings - not used on anything else under the tree.
For the kids I do the scratch off tickets, unusual candy (try the world food section at BB&B or a good candy store), gift cards for Micky Dee's, Starbucks (they love the hot chocolate), cologne/perfume for the older kids, tricks from the trick shop, Lego Figure packs, Plastic credit cards that can be turned in for a "Stay up Late" or "No Chores Day", Movie Passes, craft kits (Michaels or Joanns), lip balm/lip gloss, gum (lots and lots of it) usually get the old bubble gum with the comics from The Cracker Barrel. Cool pens or mechanical pencils, lego erasers, rubber band balls (IDK why this is a fun deal but it is), card games....
Lots of ways to make the stockings fun and we always do them last after the gift opening mele winds down.
