www.breitbart.com/Br eitbart-California/2 014/05/25/CA-Gunman- s-Aunt-Speaks-F

Here's part of the statement from the killer's aunt:
"I can't imagine how awful this must be for the families of those killed. My heart goes out to them. I don't know how on earth a sick, disturbed young man was able to get hold of a gun."

Ma'am, how about putting blame on the murderer... the disturbed person who pulled the trigger and stabbed?

www.salon.com/2014/0 5/25/ucsb_shooting_u pdate_father_of_the_ shooting_victim

And here's one of the victim's father blaming the NRA:

“Why did Chris die?” Richard Martinez said at a press conference. “Chris died because of craven, irresponsible politicians and the NRA. They talk about gun rights, what about Chris’ right to live? When will this insanity stop?”

Chris died because a mentally ill person was able to legally buy a firearm... the murderer went thru the process and nothing abnormal was found... because the data on the system is crap.

So, here we go again, blaming the tool and not the individual... although I understand the murderer also stabbed some people, but Knife Rights is not been blamed.

My understanding is that all firearms were legally purchased and registered (CA silly gun laws) and the guns and magazines were of legal capacity too... what are gun control proponents in CA going to propose next? and what, if any, may be done at the Fed level... would love to see the Democrats pushing gun control going into the midterm elections.

CA will attempt to punish the law abiding again. I am so glad I left that State when I did.

people are going to find ways to hurt each other, despite of gun control laws... however, it's not right to punish law-abiding citizens because of the actions of a few.

It is not right but remember gun control is not about crime control but control of the populace. CA Senator Leland Yee was a prime example as he was the main leader fort pushing gun control in the State but secretly he was behind the arming of terrorists in Asia and chinese mafia groups associating himself with China town main gang leader Shrimp Boy Chow. They have this belief of "Do as I say not what I do"

I really don't understand why there is all of this hand wringing around some form of gun control. I own guns myself. However it would seem that the NRA and many others are absolutely against any compromise on this issue. Clearly something needs to be done. But we can't even have an intelligent conversation on the subject before the cry of "the government wants to disarm us" foolishness starts.

God help the legislator that puts forth a bill for a sensible idea like computerizing the purchase of gun sales so they can be more easily tracked. As it stands now the ATF cannot legally do so. Why, because of pure stupidity and paranoia. Based upon my understanding of the 2nd amendment I really don't think that the framers of the Constitution ever intended for every single citizen to be armed. But that horse has left the barn due to SC interpretations.

So as I see it the question is how many more hundreds of our fellow citizens have to die before we take the simplest of steps in an attempt to reign in our violent gun culture?

@macdaddy:

I suggest you do some research on the subject. Historians have debated this issue for decades. An argument can be made from both viewpoints. However I was only giving my opinion. So I'm far from clueless.

*Edit*

BTW it's interesting out of my whole post that's the only thing you concentrated on. Especially since I acknowledged that horse had left the barn already.

OK...If they are going to blame the guns, why not just lock the gun up and let the trigger puller go?

Understand killings started with stabbings; Warnings were raised; policed notified; guns were legally purchased;

part of attack involved ramming with car.

I don't see Gun Control advocates getting much play out of this one - so why the rush to defensive posture?

baaaah - it'll only be a few months before the next mass shooting - save your arguments.

You need to understand CA politics. Too many beliefs to the left and this is why I left and why I am more than a defensive posture.

Because we do not need laws like CA or NY where law abiding gun owners are instantly turned into Felons and there is a difference between common sense and infringement.

^^^Forget NY and CA. I want to know why ideas such as smart guns are threatening to ones rights. As you may know that technology prevents a person from firing a gun unless they are wearing a special watch or bracelet. This would make a stolen gun useless. Further it might prevent a kid from taking his parents firearms and going shooting up the local school. A gun store owner was going to sell it and he started to receive death threats. There was such an uproar he had cancel his plans.

www.alaskadispatch.c om/article/20140503/ death-threats-stop-g un-store-sellin

Cases like this make gun owners such as myself look life raving lunatics. Additionally some of the same people decry any blockage to free enterprise that is not illegal. So this man has a legitimate business, yet he could not sell a product to those who might want to buy it. Wow, some gun owners accuse President Obama of being a Communist.

As I mentioned in my previous post on this subject, ATF is prohibited from using a computer system to track the sell of firearms. In 2014, they are still required to use archaic means of determining what gun went to what dealer by utilizing paper records. Are you kidding me? If I didn't own a firearm and were looking at some gun owners fighting against even the most simplest of ideas like this, I would think some of us were "out there".

I don't understand. Why do many people have to wait until one of their loved ones is killed in a mass shooting before they start to consider some form of gun control?

@rocket,

Smart guns? Are you serious? One manufacturer has filed a patent that includes remote kill of the gun via satellites... can you imagine a hacker breaking into that system and rendering all those firearms useless?

I want my guns to be simple mechanical devices as possible... as is, if you don't maintain your guns, they can easily fail (well, Glocks are super-reliable even without cleaning, but not all are like them)... so why add another system that is prone to failure?

A gun that you have to swipe your fingerprint to activate? What if your finger is all bloody and the scan can't get a good read? A bracelet? What is the attacker has cut it off from your arm? Technology based on RFID? Radio interference devices... I mean, if you want guns to shoot at a range as a hobby, fine... smart all you want, but if your life depends on them, or used for hunting, etc. the least points of failure the better.

I can hear the story already... yeah, I had this monster buck on my sight... I mean, he must have been 18 points and 400 lbs... oh yeah? where is it... oh, I couldn't shoot... my rifle was waiting for the satellite signal and it was a cloudy day... LOL!

Compromise? There's been enough already... that bill Obama was pimping last year would have done nothing to stop this guy... so don't need more laws, just enforce what we have already... he bought all his guns legally thru a dealer... now, why were his mental health records not on NICS?

^^^In response to your first point I would say that if a person chooses to use this technology they should be allowed to do so. To harass a gun dealer and threaten to kill him because he wants to sell this type of weapon is way beyond the pale. It might not be your cup of tea but others should have the option.

As for your second point regarding his mental health records. I could be wrong but I don't believe he had a mental history that was officially documented that would prevent his weapons purchase. I know his family called the police in regard to his mental state. But when they interviewed him he seemed rational to them. So consequently there was probably no notation in the NICS to alert gun dealers not to sell to this idiot.
