I can only do my duty for the ones in Texas....

Eddyfree.... Can you operate your personal budget on a deficit year after year.....
Or are you one of those that thinks this is an imaginary number that never needs to be paid back?

@EddyFree:

I'm not MD, and I apologize if I'm interrupting the conversation, but I'll take Jeb Hensarling for $1000 Alex, err..Eddy..

Now I suppose you have a Dem to champion, who might that be?

Cornyn's arrogance in playing this off as a vote against, is insulting. Yes John I got guns...and friends that vote.

Hmmm...I'd have to put up John Boehner or even Chris Christie....Then again, they may be useful, so I'll have to think about that some.....

If I had my way, we wouldn't have Democrats Or Republicans...We'd just have Republicrats...They wouldn't be able to be bought, and they'd work together to find efficient and effective solutions to the country's issues...Then I'd wake up from my Demerol induced euphoria only to realize that I just had a Colonoscopy...

Exactly MD!....Therefore, I see one less John Cornyn in Texas as a definite plus! But, he needs a close friend or two (3,4,5,6,etc.) to go along with him to make a statement right??...Vote a whole block of them out...That'll show em...

@EddyFree:

Uhh, well I suppose Boehner or Christy could move to God's land here in Tejas, but otherwise they couldn't take Cornyn's seat as a Senator from our State.....which was the premise of your post as I understand it.

However, I am on record here at good ol' ADC that I have given up on dividing the political spectrum by Dems and Reps. It's more about Statists and Libertarians. So we agree there.

Politicians being bought? Lots of ways to get rid of that......simplify the tax code for starters. Eliminate corporate taxes and simultaneously eliminate designated loopholes targeted to keep politicians in office by way of largess from campaign contributions. Without favorable tax treatments, corporations lose most, not all, incentive to invest in politicians. Never happen, though. Govt institutions exist to survive.

I think the wires got crossed somewhere...I thought you were asking what Dem I would get rid of to even it up...The whole premise of the reply to OP was basically a play about political numbers in Texas...

My reply to you was all lighthearted humor(Boehner and Christie as Dems, etc...)...

Fair enough. MD said in the OP he would look for another candidate opposite Sen Cornyn. You agreed, asking for alternative options.

I'm asking you, or any others that care to weigh in (obligatory @Codeman reference), who would be a worthy opponent from the Dem's available.

I'm still a Hensarling supporter.....but he seems content to lead from the rear guard. So I'm prolly gonna be disappointed.

If I was handicapping this as a horse race, I'd make Cornyn the 3/5 odds on favorite.....sadly.

Really, did he? In the OP, MD said "I will remember this on Election Day !!!!!!"...That's pretty vague at the most...For all I know, he could be sitting it out in protest...

You agreed, asking for alternative options.

I said "I'm behind you 100%!!! What other Republicans are on your list?"
In other words, I agree in getting rid of Cornyn, do you have any more Texas conservatives you'd like to get rid of while you are at it? There were no options...

Hey, I am just getting on here and seeing this.

The Texas Democratic Party is in a strange situation where we have two groups of leaders: Old guys who were elected in the 1970s and young newcomers who don't have a lot of experience just yet.

Many will disagree, but I believe the best Texan we have to offer as a Senator is Bill White. Bill White, while he had some problems, was a very successful mayor of Houston, a very successful business leader, and he did a great job at the Federal level in Clinton's cabinet as well. He is a moderate in almost every way, a pragmatist who believes government should move in small steps instead of trying to take on huge initiatives, and he is always willing to compromise to work out an agreement instead of giving up and throwing progress down the tubes. He is pro-business and pro-energy, but also believes in reasonable regulation that benefits labor and the environment. In short, Bill White is the kind of moderate person who offers the best of what both Republicans and Democrats have to offer. Being to the left, myself, I don't agree with him on every issue, but with Washington being as divided as it is today, I believe Bill White would be a great, although less noticed, Senator.
