Interview with Kingwood City Limits Foundation Committee

Tell us a bit about your business: What does your business offer, and how long have you been around?
Kingwood City Limits (KCL) is a FREE outdoor music festival at Kingwood Town Center Park featuring local live
music,
is preparing to rock at its second annual event. The goal is to support
live music, promote local bands, and boost the venues that host
performances.
music,
is preparing to rock at its second annual event. The goal is to support
live music, promote local bands, and boost the venues that host
performances. The
KCL Committee is made up of four local musicians – Whitman McConnell,
Chris Vaughn, John Wisser, and Christy Archer Janacek – volunteering to
organize the festival to help grow and stimulate the live music
community in Kingwood.
Last
year's KCL was a great success with well over 1,000 people in
attendance. The impact of KCL went beyond the event, building a solid
infrastructure for the live music community in Kingwood. Through the
connections and
relationships
that were forged and fortified in and through KCL, venues, musicians
AND fans have enjoyed the benefit of a more consistent stream of quality
live music in Kingwood. We aim to continue the process this year and
look forward to even more participation and attendance from the
community for this growing event!

community for this growing event! We are excited to share that we will soon have non-profit status and are launching Kingwood City Limits Foundation, which is dedicated to the advancement of music and creative arts in the Kingwood community. The foundation is also focused on youth and music education and we are pleased to announce that we have just extended the event and added Davide Sponza and the Blue Heron Music School to the festival line-up. They will kick off the day with a special student showcase from 11:00 am to Noon.
Who is your ideal customer/client? Who do you serve best?
Everyone in and around the Kingwood area is welcome to Kingwood City Limits Music Festival. It is a family-
friendly
event with music from every genre and era, plus food trucks, drinks,
and dozens of vendors with a variety of products and services, so there
is something for everyone. If you are interested in being a food truck,
drink stand or vendor, please reach out to Tony Auston in Town Center at
[email protected].Can you tell us something about yourself as the business owner? What is your background?
Chris Vaughn, of 51 Proof and Headbangerz Ball, came up with the idea of a music festival and called it Kingwood City Limits several years ago, but it took some time for the idea to take root and for the right people to come together to fill all of the necessary roles. Whit McConnell joined the effort to preside over the planning process, and he and Chris attempted to launch the event in 2024, but the weather didn’t cooperate and they still needed more hands, so the event was pushed to 2025 when John Whitman (who is in charge of band recruitment and stage direction) and Christina Renee (who oversees promotion and sponsorship) joined the team.

Are there any special promotions, annual sales, or special events that you'd like to mention?
Rock the Square with us on March 28th at the 2nd annual Kingwood City Limits from 11 a.m. - 10 p.m.
We will have local bands playing throughout the day and evening from multiple stages at Kingwood Town Center Park. Band lineup is as follows (final lineup is subject to change)
· Blue Heron Music School Showcase
· All Apologies – Nirvana Tribute
· Headbangerz Ball
· 51 Proof
· Christina Renee and the RETROspective
· Rockhounds
· George Wright Padgett
· Jake Cole
Is there any other information you'd like your potential customers/clients to know about your business?
The festival will also feature food, beer and other vendors along with signage promoting sponsors. An advertising campaign will precede the festival that will include social media, news outlets, Kingwood.com, and signage in the
Kingwood
community. We have a few Community Sponsorships left if you are a local
business that supports the creative arts and music and is looking for
exposure. How do you see your business growing and improving over the next couple of years?
We
think it is a matter of being in the right place at the right time.
Everyone we talk to says this event was long overdue for Kingwood, and
the interest is spreading like wildfire. We had so many musicians reach
out to be a part of this event that we may have to stretch it to two
days next year. We are creating engagement and community among
Kingwood-area businesses that appreciate and support live music, as well
as local musicians and artists, and local live music fans. We do this
by inviting local community businesses to help support this event
directly with sponsorship. We are pleased to announce that our Event
sponsors this year are Megaton Brewery/The Nathaniel Center and Cowboy
Surfer Kingwood. We have also added a side stage this year and The Cove
Craft Beer & Wine will be our Side Stage Sponsor. We are very
thankful for all of our KCL sponsors, including Kingwood.com, Reynolds
Renovations, Charlie's Watch Bar, and New Chapter Estate Sales. We
still have some digital sponsorship opportunities available for local
businesses. Please contact Christy Archer Janacek at 281-687-5381 for
details.
