In an achievement that placed it among top-tier hospitals in Texas, Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital was ranked 10th in the Houston region, and 29th among hospitals in Texas, in the U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospital rankings for 2016-2017. There are more than 50 hospitals in the greater Houston region, and more than 370 in the state.

The prestigious accomplishment was earned by Memorial Hermann Northeast based on an evaluation across 16 medical specialties that include cardiology, neurosciences, and orthopedics. Moreover, 12 of the 16 specialties rely heavily on data from multiple sources like the American Hospital Association and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. In four other specialties, hospitals are scored on reputation among surveyed physicians.

“I’m extremely proud of this esteemed recognition,” said Heath Rushing, Sr. Vice President and CEO of Memorial Hermann Northeast. “But I’m more proud of the great physicians and staff at our hospital because they are the ones who makes this type of recognition possible. They are committed daily to providing high quality, safe and compassionate care to our patients. This recognition should reaffirm that the families in the Lake Houston community have one of the top hospitals – not only in the Houston region, but in the state – near their homes that can meet their every healthcare need.”

Among other specialties, Memorial Hermann Northeast was high performing in geriatrics, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and heart failure.

And, for the second consecutive year, TIRR Memorial Hermann has ranked as the No. 2 rehabilitation hospital in the United States, in the U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospital rankings for 2016-2017 – marking the 27th year TIRR Memorial Hermann has been included in the prestigious rankings. In addition, Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center was ranked the No. 2 overall hospital in Texas.

The annual U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings, now in their 27th year, help guide patients to hospitals that deliver outstanding care across 25 specialties, procedures and conditions. The Best Hospitals methodologies include objective measures such as patient survival, the number of times a given procedure is performed, infection rates, adequacy of nurse staffing and more.

“U.S. News evaluates nearly 5,000 hospitals nationwide,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis at U.S. News. “A hospital that emerged from our analysis as one of the best has much to be proud of.”

For 2016-2017, 153 hospitals were nationally ranked in at least one specialty, while 1,628 received a high performing rating in one or more specialties, procedures or conditions. In rankings by state and metro area, U.S. News recognized hospitals that were high-performing across multiple areas of care. Best Hospitals was produced by U.S. News with RTI International, a leading research organization based in Research Triangle Park, N.C.
