One of the teams at the Humble Rodeo &BBQ used pellet cookers. I was fascinated by them. Ace Hardware on Timber Forest carries them, also HEB carries the pellets in different woods.
Competition cookers are using these and winning. Mostly for ribs and chicken. They are so simple to use. Turn the knob to the desired temp and set back especially if you get the Bluetooth enabled. I have heard the augers on some gum up and stop working. But that is mostly caused by the way the pellets are stored. Pellets must be stored in a dry container. If they set in your garage they soak in the moisture and swell. I would recommend the Rectec it’s hot in competition now. Remember it ONLY smokes. As an old stick smoker I think these are cheater pits in competition,
I recently bought a Traeger wood pellet grill after using a Pitts & Spitts wood smoker for years. I am in love. I have cooked everything from brisket to pizza, meat loaf and lots of other stuff. Basically anything you can do in the oven you can do on a wood pellet grill. CAUTION: Be prepared for a learning curve but once you get the hang of them they are phenominal.
We use a Traeger for mass cooking with low attention needs...after having a few big grease fires on the traditional pits. I will say that the base/legs didn't hold up well with having to move it a lot. So if you are going to store it and roll it out back and forth often - beware.
