Wedding Traditions
So
lynnsgirl with all of her stress had me thinking about weddings, wedding expense, etc. My Cajun MIL said that the way they did weddings in her day is that everyone would bring a cake. That was it. Bring a cake. The downside to this arrangement was the the bride was judged on how many cakes were donated. It seems that a well-liked bride would receive more cakes than ones less liked! So, maybe this isn't the best of arrangements, either. Anyway, I found this interesting. Anyone with some interesting cultural wedding traditions to add to this thread?

I find myself thinking that having a small-ish wedding with having close friends provide the food could be just as nice and so much less expensive. Have the close friends to that in lieu of a gift.
Don't know if I'm crazy about the cake idea, though. Imagine being a less popular bride not receiving many cakes. How depressing! And it seems like it shouldn't be a popularity contest.
I saw a report that gen z or gen x .......whatever the 20-30s are.....are opting out of big weddings now. Choosing more fun small gatherings.
It's kinda ridiculous how expensive and outlandish traditions have become.
Dr. Phil used to say that if couples spent as much time planning the marriage as they did the wedding, we'd have less divorces.
