@Cowboys81 : He won't walk out of his court date without paying anything. Remember the jail time is not his punishment, and the bond is just insurance on a promise to show up on his court date. His day in court will determine what this is going to cost him.

@cador : Yes I know. A lot of people think they pay the 100 (well 10 I guess) and that's it. Like they get off scot free. I understand why they do it. Level the playing field and what not between those who can afford to bond out and those who sit in there until they just take whatever to get it over with.
Oh and he had a court appointed, as I'm sure a lot of them do, so I guess we paid for that?

@MrsT : So unfortunate for us, our families, especially our children and grandchildren. It's probably like this in most first offenses across the United States, which explains a lot.

I'm not saying it's enough, but it's just beginning after court. The fines start, classes, DL gets suspended for a yr

@Cowboys81 :
The bonds not high, they call it a PR bond (released on Personal Recognizance), because jail time isn't a real threat as your first DWI is a misdemeanor, so your more than likely going to show for court, and as long as you do show, and do and pay what they tell you, your not going to do any jail time.
It would sting the heck out of most, like myself. The 10K plus, running around to court/atty's, I think they put that ignition thing on a lot for 1st timers (not sure why some get it and some don't), the loss of license (gotta get a hardship back n forth to work one), chance of loss of job (especially if it involves driving) ect.
