Our 10 Best Tex-Mex Restaurants In Houston, Texas list presents the best spots in Houston, Texas where one can savor the culinary delights of Tex-Mex food. Houston stands as the most populated city in the great State Of Texas. Not only is Houston the largest city in Texas, but it is also the most populous city in the entire Southern United States. Named after the American General Sam Houston, the city of Houston is home to an abundance of restaurants specializing in all cultures. One of the city's most popular food items is the culinary specialty of Tex-Mex. Below are ten of our favorite Tex-Mex Restaurants In Houston.

# 10 - Moderno Tacos

One unique thing about this restaurant is that it is open for breakfast. If you plan on arriving for breakfast, you'll see a list of their breakfast items on a chalkboard. When you walk into a restaurant and see a chalkboard of their menu items, you know you're walking into a casual atmosphere. Even the bar is simple. The restaurant seems brighter with the extra lights hanging from the ceiling. The splash of yellow on the chairs demonstrates the vibrant look of the restaurant.

A tasty dish you can order is the beef taco plate. The three tacos you will receive are crispy, and the beef is topped with lettuce, tomato, and cheddar cheese. With the three tacos, you will also be served rice and refried beans. Another popular choice is their famous Moderno burger. The patty is mixed with fresh beef and brisket. It is layered with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions, and a secret sauce that is delicious. The plate is served with french fries.

Address: 10455 Briar Forest Dr. Ste 150, Houston, TX 77042

# 9 - Aguirre's Tex Mex

As you walk up to the restaurant, you get to take a sneak peek at their lovely patio. Most of it is covered by a large umbrella to provide shade for most of the area. Be sure to walk inside the restaurant before sitting at the outdoor tables. If you host a private party in one of their rooms or attend someone else's party, you can rest assured that the staff will treat every guest like they are the most important person.

One of the popular dishes from this restaurant is the shredded chicken enchiladas. The chicken has been shredded by hand and placed into three corn enchiladas. The enchiladas are drenched in their poblano cream. It's topped with melted cheddar cheese and drizzled with sour cream. This meal is served with a scoop of rice and a bowl of baked beans. You can't eat beef? That's not a problem because they have a wide variety of vegetarian options. If you're eating alone, the veggie faj for one would be the perfect option for you. This dish consists of a plate of vegetables that have been sauteed on top of onions. With this plate, you will receive a bowl of rice and a bowl of black beans, and you will also receive a side of sour cream and guacamole.

# 8 - Ninfa's

The restaurant's dining area looks so casual that it could be outside. The inside is bright and cheerful. On the patio, you will get the same type of atmosphere. Each table has an umbrella to provide shade for your group for those summer months. After dark, the patio looks beautiful because it will be lit up by the lights that are hanging above the sitting area. There are also lights hanging around the restaurant. You'll be able to see the restaurant lit up after dark.

The chicken tamales are delicious and are worth trying. The chicken has been braised with guajillo peppers. It has been wrapped in banana leaves and served in a tomatillo cream sauce. You can get it in the beef or pork if you don't want the chicken tamales. Do you like salmon? Have you tried it in a taco? The salmon tacos are the best. The salmon is grilled and glazed with a tamarind sauce. It's topped with grilled onions and is served with mango salsa for dipping.

Address: 2704 Navigation Blvd, Houston, TX 77003

# 7 - Irma's Southwest

This restaurant takes pride in making its dining area look nice for guests because you never know when a new customer will walk through the door. The customers have the privilege of watching the chefs prepare their food and waiting with anticipation to see when the waiter or waitress will bring their food. Every table is complete with a salt and pepper shaker, which shows you they are prepared. Plus, the most important part is that the staff keeps the restaurant clean. That's not easy to do when you have a restaurant with mostly carpeting. Love this restaurant.

One of their best entrees is the enchiladas and you get two of them. One of them will be chicken and the other will be beef. Both of your enchiladas will be sprinkled with spinach and American cheese. All rolled up into two enchiladas. Another Mexican favorite is the tacos and you get two of those as well. You can choose either fish or shrimp to be added to your taco. Either of these options would be a great choice and both the shrimp and the fish are grilled to your liking.

# 6 - Lupe Tortilla's

If you were a new customer walking up to this building for the first time, right away you would notice how elegant it looks. The stone building and the potted plants let you know to come into this restaurant and see what's inside. They have more than one dining area. A rusted-looking gray and brown wall separates the two areas but you can still walk through to the other side and see what's going on if something catches your eye. Most people choose to sit on the patio when it's cooler to breathe in that Texan fresh air.

Many people tend to go for the soft taco option because they don't like the crunching sound when they bite into a crunchy taco. The soft chicken tacos are a great choice. You get two tacos that are filled with roasted chicken and Jack cheese. Their ranchera sauce is drizzled over the top of the chicken and cheese. These ingredients are rolled into a flour tortilla that's cooked just a little bit so the tortilla will be warm when it's served to you. If you are the kind of person that likes a little heat in your meal, try the spicy red enchiladas. With this meal, you will receive three enchiladas with roasted chicken, and jack cheese. The spicy red sauce is poured over the top before you wrap the enchiladas up in corn tortillas. It's also served with pico de gallo and sour cream.

# 5 - Pappasito's Cantina

It's amazing how beautiful this restaurant looks on the inside. There is a light that makes the walls look pink and purple when you walk in. There's a wonderful ambiance about it that makes you feel relaxed as you're eating your Mexican dinner. The rest of the restaurant is bright and cheerful and all the customers are having a good time visiting with each other and enjoying the food.

The crispy Baja fish tacos are a popular dish among recurring customers and you get two of them, which is plenty for one person to easily finish their meal. The tilapia is grilled but not too much and the jalapeno crema is on top. It is served to you in corn tortillas that are cooked a little bit so it will be nice and crispy. The fajitas are another good choice and you will receive two of those. You will find beef and chicken inside the fajita enchiladas with chile con carne & red chile sauce.

# 4 - Monterey Tex Mex Cafe

From the outside, it looks like a diner, which is good. It means that it's small and you may get your food quicker than the busier restaurants. The inside of this restaurant is just like you thought it would look. It will give you a casual atmosphere while you're sitting down admiring the restaurant's design. Your eyes may drift to the red arches that are in the middle of the restaurant separating the two dining areas. It's a perfect spot for that because you can walk to the other side easily.

Are you too hungry that you can't wait for your food? Order an appetizer to get you started, and it will tie you over until your food arrives. The buffalo wings are delicious. You will receive 8 wings covered in their spicy buffalo sauce. It's served with celery and a creamy ranch dipping sauce. From there, you can move on to your favorite entree. They have new items added to their menu, which seems to grow in popularity with their customers. One of those new entrees is the crusted chicken. The chicken breast has been grilled and hand-battered. Their cilantro cream sauce and cheese cover the chicken so you get a flavor explosion in your mouth with every bite. It is served with rice, charro beans, and pico de gallo.

# 3 - Gringo's Mexican Kitchen Restaurant

In this restaurant, they do have a bar that is nicely built and has high chairs for people to sit in. You can wait to pay your bill or you can order a drink from the bartender while you wait to be seated. The hostess stand also looks attractive and gives you an elegant vibe. Another important feature is that if you're looking for a place to take your children, this restaurant is kid-friendly.

The fajita tacos stand out on the menu, and it's a great choice. You will get two fajita tacos and you can choose between chicken, steak, or both. Each option has a different price so pay attention if you're on a budget. You will also get a side of guacamole to put on your tacos. Another one of the favorite entrees is the chimichanga. If you've never had this dish before, it's a burrito that's fried and has salsa-style chicken. Ranchero sauce and cheese are also rolled into the burrito. You will get a side of guacamole and sour cream for dipping. If you want to substitute the salsa-style chicken with the chicken fajita, it will be an additional charge.

# 2 - Valencia's Tex-Mex Garage

This restaurant is the place to be, and it's the one most customers prefer to go to because of the excellent customer service and food selections. From the outside of the restaurant, you can catch a glimpse of the atmosphere that you'll be stepping into once you open those doors. This is one of Houston's newest Mexican restaurants that recently opened in 2020 and customers can't stop going on and on about how great it is. It's clean, it's organized, and it's kid-friendly. What more could you ask for?

Valencia's has a special going on for the summer. It's called their summer special, and it's a beef enchilada. The enchilada is filled with ground beef and a taco and a beef chalupa. It's served with a side of guacamole. Mention it to your waiter or waitress if you want the guacamole poured over the enchilada. If you're really hungry, you can order Fronnie's Superior. You will get a large chicken fajita taco and a cheese enchilada. It's served with a side of guacamole, rice, and beans. If you're not interested in chicken and want a different kind of meat in your fajita, then you can substitute a wood-grilled steak for an additional charge.

# 1 - Tacos A Go-Go

This restaurant is almost like a fast food place. You can go up to the counter and order whatever you want. When your order is ready, you will go back up to the counter to pick it up. This kind of restaurant is perfect for busy men and women on the go. You can get it to go and eat it at home, and they have a dining option available. Their dining room is a casual setting, and there are sauces on every table to dip your food in.

The food at this restaurant is one of the best in Houston, and they have an option for all of the vegetarians out there. The veggie lovers' egg taco is a great breakfast choice especially if you're in a hurry. The zucchini is grilled just enough to leave grill marks on the vegetable. The taco is also filled with yellow squash, carrots, red onions, mushrooms, and spinach. It's loaded with eggs and topped with shredded jack cheese. One of the best choices is the quesadillas. What makes this one of the best choices is that you can build your own. All you have to do is tell the cashier what meat you want and any toppings that you want on top of the meat, and then you're set.

The fact Lupe is on the list tells me there was not a good set of criteria.

@West-Tex : Thanks a lot! Now, I want Pappasito's and a big margarita and it isn't even noon yet. My guys like ElToro in Lake Jackson and I just eat it but don't enjoy it. They can't make a good margarita. I've tried them all!

My favorite at the moment is Goode Company Cantina, their food has been excellent the two times I have been.

The Kingwood El Tiempo has been hit and miss, I think it depends on who is working the kitchen on a given day but the last time I ordered it was really not good, very bland and flat.

What? Lupe Tortilla's is number 6, but Hugo's on Westheimer didn't even make the list?

Where do I file a complaint?
