Sammee: they could issue fines and then sue for collection or place a lien.

could you please tell me how it is the people in Kingwood are so scared of the HOA that they get letters about a blade of grass over the curb and they panic.
Imagine my surprise when I get a certified letter a year later, threatening to put a lien on the house for not removing the goal after what they claim were multiple letters about it.
So, I call them. Turns out they were sending the letters to our former address in PA. I imagine the forwarding order had expired by that time. They said, at the time, that they didn't "know" we were living in this house, they thought maybe it was a "vacation home" I thought it was bs, because it was quite obvious we lived here, especially since someone had to trot up the driveway to see the cracked backboard.
But yes, they threatened to put a lien on my house for a basketball goal that wasn't even permanent.

It didn't used to be this way. Years ago HOA's had great powers and ruled the neighborhoods with an iron fist. They could take action up to and including foreclosing on your home. Not a problem if you had some pride and took care of your property. Now not all HOA's were this drastic, but there were some that seems to relish the power. The nere' do wells obviously didn't like this and soon the state legislature took action and basically pulled the teeth and clipped the wings of HOA"s across the state. Now there is a drawn out process they have to follow leaning on the side of the home owner in order to enforce the deed covenants. As long as the HO ignores everything , including the legal letters, not much can be done. It's sad

Smokeybear : I remember when we first moved here, the HOA had contest for the most beautiful yard of the month. The winner would get $25 plus their picture in the paper. There's an incentive if anybody cares.

Catmae : Lord, don't even get me started about my street. Today my neighbor has decided to park his two cars on his front lawn. Why not? Who's going to send him a letter?

AMCLady: I noticed a house with a car parked on their front lawn this week. Not sure if they were just trying to show off their car or keep it in the shade, but to me it makes our neighborhood trashy.

I worked with a woman whose neighborhood in Kingwood had a very strict HOA. No parking in the driveway for more than 24 hours, they don't put out trash cans, her neighbor turned her in for having a retractable clothesline in her backyard. I'm glad I no longer have one. 😂

Cbear : One car has left about an hour ago but they were there on the lawn last night and early this morning. I don't know if they will be driving back on the lawn or not. You live in Kingwood. How does it go with your HOA and be restrictions. If your neighbor was doing this what would they do and how would they get rid of it. Are the neighbors respecting those letters they get or do they ignore them. Some of the Kingwood ladies I've talked to sound like they're afraid of their HOAs.
