Construction Begins on EMCID's New 200-Acre Dog Park 
First Phase Will Feature Areas for Large, Small Dogs (SEPT. 14, 2026– NEW CANEY, TX) – The East Montgomery County Improvement District (EMCID) has awarded the construction contract for the first phase of its highly anticipated 200-acre park in New Caney to HD Outdoor Construction. Construction is scheduled to begin in November on the first phase of EMCID's long-term vision for a natural park that preserves the area's beauty while providing new recreational opportunities for residents. That first phase will include two fenced dog park areas, one for large dogs and one for small dogs, totaling 32,856 square feet. HD Outdoor Construction specializes in amenity construction, working closely with landscape architects to create distinctive outdoor spaces that meet functional needs while complementing and enhancing the surrounding natural environment. This expertise makes HD Outdoor Construction an ideal fit for this project. The first phase will include: • Separate large and small dog park areas totaling 32,856 square feet
• Two interactive water features for dogs
• Two shade structures with adjacent seating areas
• Artificial turf play areas
• Parking with 33 spaces
• Restroom facilities
• A covered canopy area
• A future children's playground In 2023, EMCID purchased 64 acres along FM 1485 near Caney Creek for the dog park. Since then, the district has acquired additional surrounding property, expanding the project to approximately 200 acres. Residents were asked to provide input on what they would like to see in the park's second phase through surveys and a public hearing. A second public hearing to gather final input is in the works.
Future phases will continue to enhance the park while maintaining the natural landscape that makes East Montgomery County unique.
