Atascocita Pursuit Ends in DWI and Weapons Charges

On February 3, 2026, deputies with Constable Mark Herman’s Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle near the 2100 block of Atascocita Road. The driver refused to pull over and threw an item from the window while attempting to flee the area.

Following a short pursuit, deputies were able to stop the vehicle and detain the driver, identified as Cameron Burnett. During the investigation, Burnett showed several signs of intoxication. Deputies later recovered the discarded item, which was determined to be an open container of an alcoholic beverage. Investigators also discovered that Burnett was in possession of a loaded handgun during the incident.

Cameron Burnett was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon, and Evading in a Motor Vehicle. His total bond was set at $20,200.00 out of the 180th District Court and County Court 13.

Serious question:
Anybody know what constitutes unlawful carrying a weapon? The write up sounded like the handgun was in the car, not being carried when he was arrested. I'm just curious.

Probably in his possession while committing another crime, too lazy to look up the statute but most likely theyre stacking the charges and he will plea down

@ginx :
I don't think you can have a law that differentiates between having gun on you or at ready access. That would create a legal nightmare. Now if the gun is in his trunk, that could be different.
