Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) program new to Humble ISD for 2022
The new Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) program is currently available at several Humble ISD secondary campuses. The program will prepare students to obtain their drone pilot license.
According to Joe Paneitz, drone piloting teacher at Atascocita High School, the UAV curriculum is a 4 year program which is available to students interested in learning about drone piloting. Once students complete the program, they are professionally certified.
The program includes classroom instruction on equipment and how to fly a drone. The students will also learn about the laws that govern airspace and how it pertains to drones. Additionally, students will receive hands-on instruction for piloting a drone. Students will also learn about 3-D mapping and underwater drone operation.
The drone program is open to students attending Atascocita, Humble, Kingwood, Kingwood Park, and Summer Creek high schools. It is taught by Mr. Paneitz at Atascocita High School. Students from other campuses will be transported to Atascocita High School for the class.
Autumn Ridge Middle School and West Lake Middle School also plan to offer a drone piloting class.
