New Humble Senior Activity Center to Hold Grundbreaking Ceremony April 26th
The city of Humble invites community members to celebrate the highly anticipated groundbreaking for Humble’s new Senior Activity Center on Wednesday, April 26, 2023. Mayor Norman Funderburk, Mayor Pro-Tem David Pierce along with City Council Members Andy Curry, Paula Settle, Bruce Davidson, and Mark Martin will join Humble’s City Manager Jason Stuebe and Civic Center Director Jennifer Wooden to mark the construction phase of the new center. Brief remarks from local officials and designers will begin at 2:00 pm at the project site, 1419 S Houston Ave, Humble, TX 77338.
Previously housed in a church and then in the civic center, Humble’s senior activity program had long outgrown the spaces set aside for occasional gathering. Through grassroots organization and extensive community outreach, city council approved the design and construction of a new facility for the community's senior population. In 2022, the city’s design team partnered with BRW architects to start on this exciting new project. The project bid was awarded to Purcell Construction of Humble, TX.
The Humble Senior Activity Center will be a vibrant facility where seniors can gather to get active, enjoy social activities, and feel connected. The center’s fully ADA accessible design concept includes craft classrooms, gym spaces for aerobics, game rooms, a pickleball court, library and great room, a kitchen, patios and outdoor spaces.
Humble Senior Activity Center is slated to open its doors to the community April of 2024.
