Mother demands apology after Florida teacher's birthday gesture

lynnsgirl : We sang it, but it was only as children. I don't remember adults singing it. I agree there was no malice or ill intent, however now that parent is suing the school. Somehow that doesn't surprise me.

Teacher should have known better, apologized and promised to watch her communication in the future. I have been in education for over 40 years. 40 years ago the song was popular and sung frequently in our schools. Many, many years ago most teachers grew to understand what a song or other communication with certain references could mean to certain people and most of us learned to think before we communicated. This teacher is very much behind the times. Probably without thinking, she has triggered and now added to all the past insults felt by the mother over her lifetime.
