Minor Crash In Humble Leads to Major Drug Bust & Cash Seized

Humble Police Department
At approximately 1:00 pm on Thursday, July3, an Humble PD Traffic Unit was contacted by a local tow truck driver who just witnessed a hit-and-run crash in north service of US Hwy 59 just before W 1st St.
The Traffic Unit was able to quickly locate the suspect vehicle, as it was fleeing the scene. A traffic stop was conducted and it was noted that the driver of the vehicle did not immediately come to a stop.
The vehicle did eventually stop in the parking lot close to Smoothie King where an investigation was conducted. A new Officer, who is still in training and his Field Training Officer took over the case for training. After taking the driver into custody, the new officer located two large duffle bags in the back hatch with what appeared to be packaged narcotics.
Humble PD K9 Augie was called out and alerted to the back of the vehicle. The bags were removed and found to contain approximately 200 pounds of methamphetamine. Additionally, a large amount of cash was recovered - approximately $20,000.00.
The driver is now facing much more serious charges than Fail To Stop and Give Information (FSGI) and the new officer now has a pretty impressive story to tell all his friends from the academy.
