Humble ISD breaks ground on $9.7M stadium renovation project
Humble ISD officials broke ground Dec. 9 on a roughly $9.7 million project to renovate the district's historic Charles Street Stadium. The stadium-located at 341 Charles St., Humble-opened in 1942 as Humble Stadium and served as the main playing field for Charles Bender High School for 23 years before Turner Stadium was built in 1965. Charles Street Stadium is used as the main venue for Humble High School's sub-varsity football teams and all of the district's soccer teams. Renovations include the installation of a turf field; the demolition and rebuilding of the concession stand, ticket booth, restrooms and maintenance facilities; the addition of a new field house with locker rooms, meeting rooms and a conference room; and the construction of a new press box. Additionally, the motto "Impossible is Un-American," which was first displayed on the original Humble High School building in 1918, will be added to the stadium's new exterior south wall. District officials noted the project, which is being funded through a 2018 bond, is planned for completion in spring 2022.

Does anyone know what's going on, on the corner of Turner Stadium and SQECHS off of Will Clayton? They cleared all those trees and I feel like it's looked the way it currently does for a couple of years now.
@eighteen :
Theyve been working on the area since last summer, at least flattening everything out. Still not sure what it is...

@West-Tex : Humble ISD is expanding like gangbusters! I didn't even know they had this land over there.

I'll bet if a child were killed by a gun at the school , nobody would be able to find 9 million dollars to protect the remaining kids going to school there . Where is some money for tutors to teach the kids that are failing or making low scores in a regular school classroom . Not everyone is meant to go to college . But if they want to spend 9 million on football stadium I find that sad . I thought kids went to school to be educated .
West-Tex : and they continue to use temporary buildings and overcrowded classes

I think kids that do not go to public school are the lucky kids . I know 3 mothers that taught their kids . One of those mothers has 8 or 9 kids . My sister in-law said all the kids are straight a students in college . And I hear that same info from the other mothers . One of the mothers was a teacher I think in Humble . Single mother & quit her teaching job to be a waitress at I Hop & teach her child . She told us her child was doing great . She was also in dancing classes which she loved .
This is all bond money, which can't be used for O&M, like books and computers and such. Bonds have to be approved by the people which this was. There is another bond proposal coming up this May. Study it and vote accordingly .
