So I got a speeding ticket today in Texas City. If I go to court and the officer is there, can I still opt to take defensive driving?
Traffic tickets are quite interesting...Most people don't know but a traffic ticket, as weak as it sounds, is a "criminal" offense...Pretty scarey stuff...
But the "interesting" part is....As a "criminal" offense, the "perpetrator" is entitled to a JURY trial if they so choose!....Jury trials are time-consuming and "expensive" for the court system...That means that an attorney representing you has serious negotiating leverage to get your case dismissed or a much cheaper outcome fine-wise as if they don't like what the court offers they can demand a Jury Trial forcing the court into more expense than your ticket/fine is worth...These "traffic ticket" attorneys are "a dime a dozen" and they do business at courts all over the place every day...You can hire them on-line and a firm attorney will show up at your court date...Costs is about $60-90...Most courts are used to them and will automatically "fold" when they approach the bench on your behalf...
Personally, I've used Sullo&Sullo before as mentioned by
@ginx....Ticket was dismissed....
