Moving here was my retirement move, so I guess I'm stuck until it's time for a retirement community. The thought of paying rent keeps me here…..

I been in Atascocita since the 70s. I love my immediate community but despise what has happened to our community as a whole. I feel like we are being taken over by terrible people. The trash all over, shopping carts being taken from stores, selfish drivers, and criminals have made us no better than the inner city. I think I will make it 5 more years and then will be out of here for good.

Hubby retires in 2 weeks and me in October. We are out of Texas as soon as we can. Possibly back to South Dakota where all my family still lives. 29 years here has been plenty. Will miss my friends, my church and my volunteering with Addi's Faith Foundation, but plan to come back for some of their events.

I said almost the exact same thing earlier today. Yes, we said it!
I've been here since 1989 and it breaks my heart to see how it has changed, and not for good.

I will stay in this area until I am just by myself, then I will pack up and live closer to one of my children, that is currently Tomball or Austin. We will see. Have been in this area a long time as well, but still working locally so not planning on a longer commute.

Well said....it annoys me that the Section 8 peeps seem to want this area to be like the darn hood..so why don't they stay in the hood instead of bringing down this area...

We bought here when Pinehurst started building on Pinehurst Trail as newly married. We stayed there a few years and moved to a bigger home that was amazing. I was sure we couldn't buy it but a few friends in real estate and insurance made sure we got it. My son and I still live here and I doubt we move unless we move to the beach houses. I feel safe and have awesome neighbors.

I am thinking the same. My street is very calm and I am outside doing lots of yard work with no problems. If someone comes to the door I will go out the garage side and see what they want to sell and can easy say no. I am not afraid at my home.

@sandman :
I can run to the beach homes if I get scared! Seriously, my area is as good as any could be unless it had gates. I think with my husband dead it is a bit of a worry but so far nothing. My 35 year old son is here most of the time.

Thank you. I will continue to lurk and post on here.

When I retired the last time 18 years ago spouse wanted to move here to be closer to daughter and grandkids. When son-in-law once asked if we had long-term care insurance, I jokingly told him "that is why we moved 1/4 mile from you". Last year they sold and moved to a rich neighborhood in Fulshear. One hour twenty minutes away with no traffic. (And there is never "no traffic".)
We may go to the country close to Nacogdoches. Or we may kick the renter out of our house in Colorado Springs. Or we may stay here so they can dump us in the VA cemetery when we kick the bucket.
