lynnsgirl : Wow! I like free better, lol. One of my old friends and neighbors was the daughter of one of the brothers who founded the Poncho's restaurant chain (the Arramidie brothers). Her dad was Paul Arrambide, who later sold his interest in the chain to his brother, Jesse. Anyway, she and her hubby took all of us (me, DH and the kids) to the Pancho's in Humble. Let me tell you what, those people knew who she was as soon as we walked in and treated us like royalty!!! It was AMAZING! Now, the food wasn't wonderful, as you know, but my kids will never forget that experience. It was soooo cool.My friend and neighbor worked for Sysco foods. Each year, Sysco chartered a jet and took their top restaurant owners out to San Francisco for a 4 day, 3 night trip. In 2002, her hubby couldn't go, so she invited me! We flew on a chartered jet and stayed at the big hotel in Union Square. The hotel was the Fairmont, the one where they filmed that TV series, "Hotel" with James Brolin. Her company paid for every single thing! Banquet rooms filled with breakfast and dinner buffets every day. One night was a special dinner. During the day, we got to do anything we wanted (even visit to Alcatraz). My friend just turned in all our tourist receipts and we were reimbursed. It was amazing.EDIT: It was 2003, not 2002.

Weathergirl5 : I surely hope they did. What's the point of going there if you can't raise the flag? We used to have a Ponchos, but they went out of business probably 30 years ago. Reminds me of the time my very wealthy but frugal friend told me that she & her dh went there for a cheap date night. They did dinner and a movie. They went to Panchos and then to the discount $1 movie place. Ug. Just gross all the way around. She laughed about it and said it was fun.

RajunCajun : That was a cool family. For many years, her father, Paul Arrambide, was the top person in the Boy Scouts of America organization. Since both my boys were scouts, that was very cool to them. Meeting him at her house was a huge treat (she lived across the street from us). A cool story from her childhood was that she played violin. Her Dad went to a pawn shop and found a Stradivarius, buying it for a pittance. She still had it, when we were neighbors, and it was worth a couple of millions. If she still has it, it's worth a lot more. I've lost touch with her in the last 10 years, so I don't know if she still has it. Since it's from her Dad, I assume she does.
