Yes, I pray for her family. I just saw her picture on my DS FB and it's just so sad when you see a face with this tragedy. So young, so sad.

Very sad. A lot of upset kids today at AHS.

Prayers to her family and loved ones. Just a tragedy.

I don't know if it's the driver but someone that was in that vehicle is still in hospital.

I no longer have a student at AHS. How was it mishandled?

@traxla:

Principal Daniels came on the PA during 3rd period and asked the teachers to stop what they were doing and check their email. I could instantly tell something was wrong by the tone of Daniels voice.
The part of the email that was read allowed to students basically said that Junior Charity Green passed away the night before and there would be counselors available for students. And also something about providing support to her grieving friends and family.
(I could see my teachers screen and I saw it also said that if students asked how or anything that to just stick to the script).
A student in my class spoke up, "This reminds me of when Kenny died."

@liveandletdie,

Thanks for that... yeah, DD#2 (a junior) said that her teacher was choking back tears when he read the statement... made some of the kids kinda uncomfortable... I think the admin may have some of the teachers in a tough spot... especially those who were more involved with the girl.

We were out of town when Kenny died... DD#1 found out via text message. Not a good way to get news like that

The "issue," according to the masses is that AHS decided to wait until the mandatory attendance check (the time after which the school/district still gets $$, even if students leave thereafter) to make the announcement (several maintain that they did this strategically in the event students were upset by the news and wanted to go home). Many were apparently upset about this.

(Don't shoot the messenger!)

RIP to this young lady and prayers for comfort and grace to her family and friends mourning her loss.

I'm sure the majority of the people's first instinct wasn't that the school was just trying to get their money. If that was the reason, so what?
I remember they made the announcement about Kenny during first period - well before attendance.

Isn't the driver still in the hospital?
