I bet y'all thought y'all got rid of me! 😂😂 My MIL has a storage and we've been meaning to go through it and that's what we did today all day!!! 😅 We didn't finish but we got a lot done today! My dh is the only child left out of 4 so it's all on us but that's okay! I'm not complaining at all about the time we get to spend together with her!

@West-Tex : When you're finished, you can come do mine. I only have one storage unit left, but it's costing me $454/month. Too much!!

We are headed back there this morning. The hardest thing is convincing her to get rid of things! She still wants to keep a lot of it! I understand her…but it's stuff that she absolutely doesn't mean or will ever use! Praying to finish today! 💪🏽

The biggest challenge I had when we downsized from family home was getting rid of stuff. It took about a month of kids getting what they wanted, hired a junk removal service, donations to organizations and curb trash. It was a project. Turns out things I thought kids wanted they did not. I still have another go around in my garage I need to tackle.
I finally got rid of my storage unit after realizing it was sucking money on stuff I did not need.
It was very emotional to see things I held on to dearly be tossed.
I understand what y'all are going through.
What got me through was the fact that I didn't want my kids have to deal with all "the stuff" one day…if I don't use, get rid of it. 😎

The only time we ever had a storage was after Harvey. If I can't stuff it in this house I don't need it. 😂 My MIL had like 3 of them. Her boyfriend was supposed to be paying the rent on them, along with some other things. He wasn't. He left one day and she found out all of her stuff had just been auctioned off for non-payment.

I've been preaching for years about getting rid of usable items. NOBODY in the family wants your stuff.! I know it's hard to hear but it's true. I donate, donate, donate because I love the fact that somebody else can use my item.

By the way, doesn't it feel good to go through and purge items, even if they are not your items. It is always a satisfying feeling for me to purge items and maybe someone can enjoy or use them.

I've talked her into donating a lot of it! I also told her I would take all personal pictures and VHS tapes!

Wow. That's sad. I gave you a heart reaction in that I'm with you on if I can't fit it in this house I don't need it.

Agreed. I think that is one of the greatest gifts that you can give to your kids. I keep my stuff mostly cleared out. I'm definitely not paying to store stuff with the exception of our camper.

@West-Tex: Glad you're helping your MIL get rid of things she no longer needs. Yeah. I get it. Hard for her to part with much of what she's collected over the years. Sometimes it helps to take photos of items she's sentimental about. Other times it is enough to know that another family will get use from these items. Hang in there, dear friend! Thinking of you!
