@bobn
If you don't want to support a liar in the White House, ever, that probably means you should stop voting in presidential elections. All of them have and will lie to the American people. Even the best of presidents have lied to the people.
And our interests aren't vastly dissimilar. To speak plainly to you, that is one of the reasons why Republican followers have turned me away from the party; it's no fault of the party itself, but many of the people I have run across irritate me (although not every one. There are some Republicans on here whose word and intelligence I value greater than any Democrat's). There seems to be a pervading air, especially on this board, that liberals are stupid, that we have no interest in what's best for the country, that we are liars, cheaters and are unpatriotic. It seems to me, it can never be "we simply disagree" or "we are two intelligent people having a political disagreement." It's always "libtard" "sheep" "apologist", on and on. Sometimes, it seems, it's easy to forget that people like rocket, Undecided, me, etc., are all Americans who want the best for our country, that love our country. I know of a few Democrats on here have served in the military, willing to go through the ultimate sacrifice to do so.
Our principles are not that dissimilar, either. It may seem that way because we constantly find ourselves concentrating upon what divides us, here on this board. Gay marriage, gun control, Obama (and under that category falls about 90% of what we argue about), but those subjects don't define who I am as a human being and what my values are.
@nikkiole:
Well said Nik! In Democrats versus Democrats, there are differences. And in Republicans versus Republicans, there are differences. Hence, there is no definition of all "Democrats" or all "Republicans". Very few people walk in lock step with another. Painting "all" of anything as one way or the other is painting with a pretty broad brush. It was this kind of closed mind that allowed all forms of prejudice and discrimination to survive.
And, as the most powerful person in the country, the POTUS is the sacred cow - for either party! And their party will do anything to keep that position in their party. Hence, as MD likes to say, we get spin (a more polite way of saying distortion of the truth to suit one's needs at that time).
I do not understand why some people on this board insist upon name calling when there is a disagreement on a subject. When I start to read a thread, something that really interests me, it seems as though the name calling starts before the end of the first page. The "Anonymity of the Internet" at its very best. Very sad.
