If my ds was with me…he would not call another family member to come pick him up and leave me alone. No way!

West-Tex : Maybe his Mom does drugs and he already knew what was about to happen.

A few years ago in our community an organization, can't remember if it was a church or police dept., put on a seminar with teenagers about what to do if stopped by a cop when driving. They had the kids participate in 2 different skits involving a police stop. One of the skit was where the kid did everything they were supposed to do but was unfairly treated by a cop. They showed the kids how they could file a complaint if they felt they were not treated fairly but taught the kids to comply in the moment. Seems like something that should be done in all of the schools. Need to teach them don't run from police. Cooperate with requests. And file complaint later if needed.

Very true. Plus, I just kind of wish I was born during simpler times. I would not want to be a kid today.

I'm going to be real, without knowing all of the details. This is solely based on my suspicion, now validated by the video. If you wear properly fitted clothing, you don't have to worry about grabbing your waistband to hold your pants up. And it looks like he was turning around to see the distance between him and the trigger happy cop.

eighteen: I agree about the wardrobe kids choose to wear. If they wore better-fitting pants, they wouldn't have to worry about constantly reaching down to pull them up, especially when running from the police with a gun in their waistband. The cop only has seconds to determine if the kid is reaching for a gun, or reaching to pull his pants up. Seconds between life or death. I can tell you that cops aren't "trigger-happy". The last thing they want to do is shoot someone. It's a difficult position to be in. He had already felt a weapon. I don't doubt this part of his story at all.

Now if the cop violated the kid's 4th amendment rights, he'll be in trouble. I wish they would go ahead and legalize marijuana, so cops wouldn't feel the need to do searches like this.

I'm glad the wound was not fatal, and I'm sure the cop is glad for that as well.

He had already felt a weapon.

Catmae : *Supposedly*
I would like to see a detailed report on that. HPD shot up an entire household over drugs that didn't exist. I will remain skeptical.

I will remain skeptical.

eighteen : Unfortunately that's about all we can do. I want to believe he did feel a weapon, otherwise why would he have gone to such lengths to stop the kid. He could have tased him instead. Cops are trained to know the feel of weapons under clothing.

On the other hand, could be he just panicked. I really hope the body-cam footage shows undeniable truth. No matter what it is.

So simple

Comply

File a complaint if you feel your rights were violated.

Show respect to the LEO (who puts his/her life on the line for YOU daily)

Things would end much better if you do that 99% of the time.
