I'm sorry, but I just don't see how taking effective punishment out of the school's hands has equated to better behavior and a more productive learning environment. Many students are deprived of the education they're entitled to because too many teachers are having to stop what they're doing to deal with the problem children in class and elsewhere.Now in my day, both students would have ended up in the principal's office. And unless it could have been clearly determined who started it, both would have gotten some paddle on their butts. THEN, the principal would've informed the parents. Most likely, once home, both or at least one would've had more heat applied to their butts. As it is now, police officers have to be called to deal with the situation. And if it requires both these little, uh, angels to be in handcuffs, then the parent(s) are upset and want to sue everybody from the teacher and principal to the cafeteria workers saying that if their little angel had gotten a doughnut beforehand, they wouldn't have been **** off.

I get daily horror stories from my daughter. Even 1st graders are out of control. No one has manners and they all think they should be given anything they want.
