HOUSTON - Texas EquuSearch has joined the search for a missing El Paso woman who was last seen more than a week ago in Houston's Chinatown. Authorities say 24-year-old Sydney Marquez was last seen on Dec. 11 on Bellaire Boulevard between the Sam Houston Tollway and South Gessner Road. Marquez was wearing a gray hoodie, a beige shirt, gray pants, and white tennis shoes when she went missing. She's about 5 feet, 4 inches tall and 120 pounds with brown eyes and red hair. Her family said she has a four-leaf clover tattoo on her wrist. Raul Marquez is still hoping someone remembers seeing his daughter. The family lives in El Paso and said they got a call from Sydney's friends telling them she left and never returned. "Witnesses are saying that they saw a young lady who was distraught, walking in circles, keeping to herself, that they offered her blankets," he said. Raul said his daughter graduated from Texas A&M with a neuroscience degree.
"She was a superstar ... bright, fast, crunched numbers in her head," he said. Her abandoned car was found in a tire shop parking lot near the intersection of Bellaire Boulevard and Ranchester Drive. Authorities said Marquez suffers from mental illness. Her family said she may have gotten onto a bus at the Harwin and Gessner bus stop on Tuesday, Dec. 16, around 11:45 p.m. They said she may have been wearing a blanket. Houston METRO said it is working with the Houston Police Department to try to get video footage from inside the bus. "Sydney, it's Christmas, baby. Let's go home and open some gifts. I love you. I can't wait to hug you," he said. Marquez's family issued this statement about her disappearance:
"Our family is deeply concerned and heartbroken as my sister, Sydney, remains missing. She has not been located, and we are asking for the public's help in bringing her home safely. "At this time, we are attempting to shift the focus and share only confirmed information. We are grateful to the Houston community and the media for helping spread awareness. Although I have emailed Detective Leonel Avila to ask which hospitals law enforcement has reached out to ensure no gaps in coverage, I have not heard back yet. Sydney Marquez FOUND SAFE after being missing for more than three weeks, family confirms 
HOUSTON - Sydney Marquez, the 24-year-old woman who had been missing for more than three weeks, has been found safe, according to her family.
Marquez was found in Houston after being reported missing earlier this month. Her family would only confirm that she had been found safe and they were on their way to Houston. They did not provide any additional details about the circumstances surrounding her recovery. KHOU 11 News has reached out to the Houston Police for additional details on her being found. Family had pleaded for help during search Marquez's family had spent days publicly urging anyone with information to come forward as the search intensified across southwest Houston. "If you see my daughter, if she's endangered. Please don't stay quiet," her father, Raul Marquez, said during a press conference. "If you see something, if you know something, please say something. I miss my daughter. She needs to come home." Last seen in southwest Houston According to the Houston Police Department, Marquez had been last seen near the 9100 block of Bellaire Boulevard, close to Ranchester Road. Search efforts focused on the surrounding Asiatown area, where volunteers and investigators canvassed businesses for surveillance video. KHOU 11 previously obtained video showing Marquez walking northbound along Ranchester Road on the night she disappeared. Search organizers said the footage did not indicate she was in distress. "It didn't look like she was in distress, like a normal walk, not running, not staggering," said Tim Miller with Texas EquuSearch. "It certainly appeared to be a normal walk." Mental health concerns previously shared Family members previously said Marquez struggles with mental health challenges and was not taking her medication at the time she disappeared. Her father said she has wandered off alone before. On the night she went missing, family members said Marquez was visiting friends in Houston and left alone after several hours. UPDATE! Jersey Village police remove former Texas A&M student from missing status, family still searching
JERSEY VILLAGE, Texas (KBTX) - Sydney Marquez, the former Texas A&M student who went missing on Dec. 11, was found by police Friday morning. But after being released following multiple evaluations, her family says they still don't know where she is. The Jersey Village Police Department confirmed that around 12:58 a.m. on Jan. 2, they received a missing person call for service after a concerned citizen reported seeing Sydney walking along a roadway. Officers say they found Sydney in the 16000 block of Seattle Street. That's when a Jersey Village police officer contacted the lead Houston Police Department detective assigned to the missing person investigation and provided details regarding Sydney's whereabouts. "Officers were also contacted by Sydney's father, who advised that she has a history of mental health challenges," a statement from Jersey Village Police Department said. "He further advised that he was in El Paso, Texas at the time and would be returning to Houston on the next available Officers said after speaking to Sydney, they "determined she was not a danger to herself or others," and the legal criteria for an Emergency Detention Order were not met. Jersey Village Fire Department EMS also conducted a medical evaluation, according to police, and they reported "no visible signs of trauma and no immediate need for further medical attention." "Sydney's father subsequently contacted the co-founder of the Texas Counter-Trafficking Initiative, who responded to the police department," police said. "Sydney initially agreed to leave with him, but later declined after speaking with him. He requested that Sydney contact her parents, and she advised that she would reach out to her mother by email at a later time. Sydney requested to leave of her own free will and advised that she did not want any assistance. She was released prior to her parents' arrival in Houston at her own request." Sydney's sister, Clarissa, told KBTX the family was not contacted by Jersey Police about Sydney being released, but an anonymous individual reached out to the family to let them know. The family then contacted the police to confirm. Following the incident, Jersey Village police say they met with Sydney's parents to review body camera footage from the encounter. The Marquez family has requested that if Sydney is seen, contact law enforcement to conduct a welfare check. "At the time of the encounter, Sydney did not appear to be in crisis. As an adult, she was removed from missing status and released," police said. Clarissa told KBTX that the police department did apologize for letting her go, but the Marquez family expressed concern that Sydney was released alone. Officers say assistance was offered, including hotel accommodations and food, which they say she declined. She was last seen walking westbound in the 18500 block of the Northwest Freeway. Sydney, who is from El Paso, went missing in Houston while visiting a friend. Her family says she has a documented mental health history, being diagnosed with Bipolar disorder, and they do not believe she is safe.
