I don't know. The families won't likely get much out of Jagger's family (is he or his family the defendant? Idk). Are they suing Campos individually, or the company? Again...

Maybe it's similar to a case in the past where a judge ordered the defendant to pay $1 every week, hand written via check, addressed, and mailed to the family. Anyone remember this?

"Every Friday for the next 10 years, as part of his sentence, Brandon Blenden must write a $1 check and mail it to Lee and her husband, Jack. Included on every one of the checks, in that space where most people write memos to themselves like "for rent" or "electric bill," are the words "for the death of your daughter, Whitney."

Very interesting story to read, especially the insight from the family about the weekly "reminders." As an aside, the young man referenced above was also 17, and received a 20 year prison sentence.

Still can't even fathom these families' losses. Emoticon

I don't see why they are suing the driver. The girls were engaging in illegal behavior as well. They should have taken his keys to protect innocent victims. His family is already going through enough.

BusyMommy : they are suing the driver because as the driver, he is responsible for the operation of the vehicle and the safety of it's occupants. So in your estimation he's paid his debt to those famies and to society?
What's a funeral cost these days, $10-20 grand? Lost time at work for the girls families? Pain and suffering, etc. Yeah cry me a river for poor Jagger. Two 16 year olds are dead because of what he did, he drank, he drove, he was speeding and now those two are gone forever.

yomom : I totally understand your...have I......thoughts.

My kids were 2 yrs. apart, so we had frequent talks, rules, what we expected, we were there to help them stay out of trouble which may **** them off, but someday...., etc. Dd was included in all talks with Ds, per her input, she didn't need the 'talk' yet. Then, we repeated the same process and had Ds repeat the 'talk' with Dd. Momma was so dramatic!

IMO: After the folllowing talk, I noticed a big change in attitude, finally felt they were comprehending, this could truly hit home and definitely caught both of their attention.....lots of questions.
📌There was a car accident prior to Ds getting his drivers license. The person that caused the wreck as well as possible DUI (alcohol/drugs) lived in our old neighborhood so they knew who he was (1-2 yrs older). We all talked about what possible consequences could happen because of his decision.

When they heard about how bad behavior is costly, i.e., bail, attorney fees, court costs plus having a Police Record- Their eyes as big as their faces.

If found guilty: Jail, fines, court costs, Police record, everyone runs background checks. Bigger eyes!!

If others are hurt, crippled or killed, those families can sue the driver (parents) for damages. We didn't breakdown what damages could mean or be, because neither one were hardly breathing!

The fact that this one first time bad decision (depending on final outcome) could cost the family EVERYTHING, money, house, etc.

I don't think kids understand that parents can't always fix and make everything go away. All (means ADULTS, too) actions cause reactions that could lead to lifetime changes, some forever. Police Records are not COOL...following the person for years..... Everyone runs background checks...shoplift record as juvenile.....problems finding jobs!!

My kids have always had same groups of friends, (Dd hung out with the guys), so they have lost 4 really good friends which rocked their world beginning at age 14 (drowned), one (16) rabies, one (18) friend lost control/killed and one (22) was killed by a 24 yo drunk driver, plead guilty/no trial, serving 10 yrs. til 2024.

It truly makes me happy and OMG my Ds did listen and the 'talk' remains in his memory: Ds to my 8 yo grandson, All actions cause reactions, so N lets think....... This Dramatic Momma smiles as I listen to my baby boy discuss the What ifs with his son! Oh no, 8 yrs. until another teenager driver! 😳

Thank you, Lord for helping us all through these years. 🙏

law requires the Texas Department of Public Safety must provide every minor applicant (under age 18), and cosigner, for a driver license
in Texas, educational information concerning state laws relating to driving while intoxicated, driving by a minor with alcohol in the minor's sys-
tem, and the implied consent law. The minor applicant and the cosigner must acknowledge receipt of that information prior to issuance of any
driver license or permit.
I hereby acknowledge receipt of the information concerning DWI, the Zero Tolerance Law and the Implied Consent Law. Everyone signed that when applying for a driver's license, so it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

brightlights :
If that car's in Jagger's parents name-which they normally are-that's a game changer, especially if they have an umbrella (which everybody should have). Normal Um. should be about 1 million-should atleast have increased liability limits if nothing else. If not-they can go after assets.
They are naming both Campos and the Store, if the store has Liquor Liability endorsed on their policy (it's not much money-but you'd be surprised at how many elect not to add it), they'll have coverage. If not-it's another just judgement deal.

I wouldn't expect anything less from their parents! Jagger's parents more than likely expected. It's pretty standard to sue all and let the chips fall where they may.

Yep : Yes, he did drink after drinking. They chose to get in his vehicle instead of calling the police to report a dwi.

yomom :
Pretty standard deal-Drivers are legally responsible for his/her passengers. In this case where he'd been drinking, and there were fatality's-pretty open and shut except the amount of damages.

Those may be protected. Really matters who's name that car was in as if they held responsible or not. If the parents, open and shut they'll be brought in. If Jaggers, and his only, it gets into the Tx laws on parents responsibility for their children and their negligence, which I'll be honest and say I'm not all that up on. I know negligence (on the parents part) would have to be proven then, as your not automatically legal responsible for your childs actions in TX unless they can prove negligence.

cador : They can go after homeowners and retirement on a car accident? Wow.

I thought a kid couldn't get a vehicle in his/her name until 18.

Obviously, negligence will be proven. Such an awful deal all across the board here. Hopefully, a bright spot in the end will be lots of conversations and peeled eyes on the parts of parents. If just 1 life is saved as a result of this tragedy...

BusyMommy : that's true, but he was the only one with a legal responsibility of the three. The girls had no duty under the law to report him.

Your correct-I misspoke-Homes are Homesteaded and I believe Tx protects other assests like retirement funds ect, not exactly sure on those 2 but other assets can be at risk from lawsuits.
