Floyd : That's one of my fears, following behind a truck with a load of lumber, trees, or pipes. I will switch lanes to get out of the line of fire, in case something happens. Many people have had items go through their windshields .... super scary.

Yeah, ever since that damn Final Destination movie, I'm real weary about following those trucks on the freeway...

Floyd : Years ago, a friend I grew up with was traveling home from work. A truck on the opposite side of the freeway lost a piece of sheet metal and it flew through her windshield and decapitated her. That's one reason I fear trucks hauling anything. I'll see if I can find the news story ...

Oh man, that's terrible! I've heard stories similar... sheet metal, saw blades, pipe etc. but never have had it hit that close to home. You just never know, but I don't trust any of those yahoos on the road, hauling or not.

That 2x4 through the windshield is too close to the driver's seat. I hope the driver is ok and thanking the Lord for not getting impaled.

Exact thing happened just before 1960 in 2010. I was next to the semi when a "cut em up" driver clipped the semi driver side.SUV flipped multiple times, truck swerved left and right and rolled over on front of me.
