Silent Book Club?
Have y'all ever heard of this? There is a trend around here called Silent Book Club. Attendees bring whatever they are reading and sit quietly reading for an hour. Then, attendees can dine on snacks and have a social hour/discuss what they are reading-or choose another topic of conversation, There are several bars around here who are hosting these. I thought it was kind of silly at first. But I'm kind of warming up to the idea. I have no idea how this idea got started. But wondering if anyone else here has heard of this.

Never heard of it but I can see the appeal…especially if it is hard to find quiet time at home.

Luckysis : Yeah. I'm probably going to hang out at a local coffee shop and read this afternoon. I sometimes focus better that way. I get distracted when at home.

Me too. When I read, I have several other things going on, and the TV!

I wonder how many people like me would come read their phones. I would come read ADC and KDC. Gotta know what is going on in the hoods. Ha! Ha!

RajunCajun :
It kind of makes sense. Especially if you want to meet like minded, bookish people. My main reason for not wanting to join a book club, despite reading a lot,...is that I think they often over-analyze books, which kind of ruins it for me. If I'm enchanted by a book, I don't want to dissect and analyze it to death, I just kind of want to sit with it and enjoy the overall effect...

I kind of like the idea of not having an assigned book. Everyone has a different idea of what is a good book.

RajunCajun : That's so true, too...you can easily have a 20-group book club where each member has a much different idea of what is a "good" book...
