Mom tracked child's phone after car stolen with 3 kids inside in north Harris County, HCSO says

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - A man is in custody after a car was stolen with three kids inside at a north Harris County gas station early this morning, according to the sheriff's office. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the children's ages were 1, 3 and 10.

This all started around 1 a.m. when deputies got a call reporting a car had been stolen from a gas station on Aldine Mail Route west of the Hardy Toll Road. The caller reported her three kids were still in the car.

"One of the juveniles inside the vehicle had a phone, so the mom started tracking the phone and providing live information about where the car's at," said HCSO Sgt. Jeff Thomas.

Thomas said the Humble Police Department found the car near the intersection of North Park and I-59 in the Kingwood area, about 14 miles from where the car was stolen. Authorities say the suspect, who Sheriff Gonzalez identified as 22-year-old Xavion Starks, initially did not stop, but law enforcement ultimately pulled him over and took him into custody.

Two of the three kids were still in the car when it was stopped. HCSO said the third child had managed to bail out of the car shortly after it was stolen.

All three children are expected to be OK. The child who reportedly bailed out had minor injuries.

Gonzalez said Starks is charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and two counts of aggravated kidnapping.

@West-Tex: So glad that the kidlets are safe now. Our law enforcement officers did a good job!

Question: Why only TWO charges of aggravated kidnapping? Why not THREE? There must be other charges coming like felony-level theft, failure to stop and at least a dozen traffic violations along the chase route. We'll see, I guess.

Aldo waited to see if Xavion gets out on $100 bail like lots of criminals. It's disgusting.

@lynnsgirl :

I was wondering if she went inside the store and left them or maybe she was pumping gas and he sneaked in through passenger door.

Our dd plans on putting an air tag in her baby's shoes when baby gets to be preschool age. She is very responsible, but she said you never know. And she's right. You never know. It can only take an instant to look away.
